A special announcement from our doctors concerning Librela:

The FDA recently sent a “Dear Veterinarian” letter about concerns over a medication called Librela for pain control due to osteoarthritis. It’s a standard letter to inform the veterinary community of adverse events on what to expect with this medication.

We have been receiving many calls/emails from concerned pet owners. Despite the adverse reactions, we feel that this is still a good medication. Like any drug, there will always be some adverse reaction of some kind which can affect any pet.

We try to use our best judgment on which patient is a good candidate for Librela. Dogs with other health issues like kidney disease, urinary disease, etc are not good candidates for this medication. We especially avoid this in dogs with neurologic disease.

We have many dogs on this medication and for now we are seeing more benefits with this medication. We will continue to carry Librela as part of our multimodal approach to manage osteoarthritis. As part of your pet’s health care team, we strive to collaborate with you on how to make the best decision for your pet and their individual health issues.
