Our pretty filly Birdie (Uberlottie M) has outgrown the "baby" halters and moved into the one she will wear for her keuring in September. Looking forward to seeing DeAnna Stueve Greulich and the wonderful folks at Norwegian Hill Farm for this fun and educational event.

The beautiful and talented Ottumwa M, a favorite foal of Maefield Farm, is wowing them in California. Super smart and amazingly calm, five-year-old "Tumi" is a model of composure for stablemates twice her age.
Ottumwa's 2019 keuring photo with her beautiful dam, Zorphee keur, represents one of our treasured moments. Tumi was awarded Champion Jumper Foal in the US by KWPN - NA for her top score in foal keuring. She was and is something special!
Meals on wheels. Got restocked on hay this weekend. The brome grass is thick. A wet July has caused delays in putting up hay, but the growth conditions were good and it has good leaf content. We are fortunate to have so much good hay produced locally. We really appreciate our "hay guys."
Any similarities in these 2 photos? Top is Ottumwa M in Nov 2021. Bottom is her full brother, Sandulf M, taken today. These 2 beauties are both Dulf vd Bisschop x Zorphee keur. Ottumwa ("Tumi") received Champion Jumper Foal at her keuring in 2019. Sandulf ("Sandy") missed his 2022 foal keuring due to Covid cancellation.
In addition to their beautiful conformation and superb jumping ability, both siblings are calm and willing students. The bottom photo shows Sandy's first wearing of a saddle from this morning.
Both Tumi and Sandy are owned by our favorite fellow-DVM repeat buyer in southern California. Maefield horses from sea to shining sea! Sandy remains with us in Missouri for now, enjoying his c**t playmates and getting an excellent start with our expert trainer, Hope Saldaña.
Baby's first rainstorm. After a very wet spring, it's been mostly dry here since Uberlottie M ("Birdie") was born on 30 May. So she's watching this evening's thunderstorm with interest. Our horses always station themselves on their porches facing out to the storm. Well, except for dam Imalottie SPF, who's hungry.
Uberlottie M is by Victor E (Indoctro - Nimmerdor), a 1.60 m jumper. Aside from his stellar pedigree, Victor E was chosen to add a bit more height and length to Birdie. Happy to report that it appears to have worked, at least the back length part.

Beautiful hunter Bonne Amie M is steadily adding to her ribbon collection. Bonnie is a 2018 Westfalen mare from the Maefield Farm breeding program. She inherited major hunter talent from both her sire, Balt'Amour, and her conformation hunter dam, La De Da. We remember Bonnie as a sweet and inquisitive youngster. So happy to see her succeeding in her career.
Desiderata M (Dicaprio-Wolkenstein II) takes a break from flatwork and dressage training to jump around the cross country course at Queeny Park. Where's the tooth fairy? On a recent evening, our broodmare Imalottie SPF was drooling and making unusual jaw movements at grain time. She had no signs when eating hay 20 minutes earlier. So after her dinner (which she finished), we brought out the dental equipment, sedated her, and did an oral exam. We were expecting to find a foreign body, but not this one. It's a slab fracture of the last molar on upper right (tooth #111). The tooth fragment was in the cheek space. Note how the enamel folds project above the surface.
Imalottie recovered well and is chewing normally now. We will keep watch for any pain or swelling in the area in case the molar has a fracture that we couldn't see. So far, so good.
Update from CA: Gorgeous and talented Ottumwa M (Dulf van den Bisschop-Corland-Indoctro) shows her stuff in the chute. "Tumi" was the top-rated jumper foal in 2019 KWPN - NA keuring tour. Her full brother, Sandulf M, is a 2022 carbon copy of Tumi. He's growing up with his boy buddies at Maefield. He's just as personable and beautifully conformed as his sister. Sandulf will eventually join Tumi in CA.
The old horsehand's saying that "foals only grow when they are sleeping" may contain more truth than we knew. Turns out that growth hormone release does take place mostly at night during slow-wave sleep.

OUR GAGGLE OF WEANLINGS. Today was the day. We put off weaning this year, waiting for several Caspians to ship to Canada to free up pasture space then delaying again during last week's cold snap. The weather is perfect this week so we began the week with trial separations of mares and foals. Today we turned out the foals and their mares on adjacent pastures and things are quiet. The mares will be living adjacent to their foals, and the foals are in a group with 2 other mares that they know.

Expecting the tooth fairy tonight for Sandy. We extracted his wolf teeth during his first dental exam. Sandulf M is a yearling c**t by Dulf Van Den Bisschop out of Zorphee ster (Corland). We get to keep him another year while Hope Saldaña builds a foundation of groundwork as he grows up. Sandy's owner, Dr. Christina Haney DVM also owns Sandy's full sister, Ottumwa M, who was the top scoring jumper foal of the 2019 KWPN-NA keuring tour. We are proud of these siblings and enjoying watching them develop.
Transcendent M (Imothep x Imalottie SPF) is a powerful, athletic jumper c**t. He received a First Premium ribbon at his KWPN-NA keuring in September.
Transcendent (Denny) is a 2023 c**t out of our Lottie-line mare, Imalottie. Ima is the smartest horse I've met, so we expect that Denny has inherited a good brain along with ample jumping talent. Denny's sire, Imothep, has an impressive jumping record that includes the 2016 Olympics.

Thank you Haley Upton and Hope Saldaña for your expert preparation and handling of our horses at the The American Hanoverian Society inspection this morning at Marquis Farm,. The judge had nice things to say about "Archie" (Arpeggio M) a 2023 c**t by Apiro out of Dulcinea GKF (Depardieu). "Very nice head. I love his eye. Well set neck. Good topline. Well muscled. Strong pasterns. A very sporty foal." And like all of Dulcy's foals, he can jump! Looking forward to seeing Archie develop, most likely as a hunter or eventer.
Always handsome, Tarezzo M (Arezzo VDL - Van Gogh - Orame) placed in the top 10 jumper foals of the KWPN - NA 2023 keuring tour. We are so proud of Taz and his mom, Katniss SPF. Congratulations and thank you to Marta Andersen Tobler for her purchase of Taz. We know he will be in the best of hands.
Big thank you to Norwegian Hill Farm for hosting a well run and successful KWPN - NA keuring yesterday. We were treated like royalty, and our two c**ts came home with a bit of bling! Transcendent M ("Denny”)and Tarezzo M ("Taz”) received First Premium designations. Taz is currently the high scoring jumper foal of the North American keuring tour, and Denny isn't far behind. Another foal pushing the limits - and wiping out. This Arezzo VDL c**t out of Katniss SPF (https://www.horsetelex.nl/horses/pedigree/1805608/katniss-spf) is a handful. However, he surprised us today by standing "calmly" in the foal box while we worked on getting Kat ready for breeding. T-boy needs a name.
EDIT: Named him Tarezzo (after his dad). Barn name ”Taz” as in Tasmanian devil.
Our week old Utopie filly has a name! "Unchained Melody" (Mel) puts on quite a show under the watchful eye of her dam, Espatako's Electra R (https://www.horsetelex.com/horses/pedigree/1824363/espatako-s-electra-r). Both parents were successful showjumpers and the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

First foal of 2022 is a colt by Dubarry out of our Depardieu-Wolkenstein II mare. "The Dude" is getting his land legs on his first outing from the barn. So much fun to watch newborn foals develop their personality and figure out the business of being a horse.

Forty day heartbeat check for our Omano BC (Cumano-Cassini I-Landgraf I) x Katniss SPF (Van Gogh-Orame-Nimmerdor) foal. Omano is the first North American-bred horse to win the Pavo competition for 6 year old stallions. https://youtu.be/2SzDQgo6khk Omano has made a big splash on the international scene and is destined to go far. Katniss’ sire Van Gogh (Numero Uno) had great success in international show jumping. His offspring compete at the top of sport in all 3 disciplines. Son Cosmo was on Gold Medal-winning German dressage team at Rio Olympics. Van Gogh received the top score at his stallion performance test in 2005 with especially high marks for his jumping ability and canter. We think this will be a special foal. Good job, Katniss!
Caspian horses Lily and Tish are feeling their oats today. They love to free jump but will also take care of a beginning rider when working under saddle. Today they're just playing around.
WE LOVE NEW YORK! Heartbeat of a 65 day old fetus by New York BC. This is Electra's (Espatako - Rosenkavalier) first foal and we are thrilled. Only 9 more months to wait. This view is a cross section through the thorax with developing ribs and foreleg bones seen as white highlights. Love that heartbeat.
