Trane Station V capped off a lucrative weekend for his connections with his half-length victory in Sunday's Grade 1, $1,723,502 Los Alamitos Two-Million Futurity at Los Alamitos Racecourse.
Trained by Heath Taylor for owner Valeriano Racing Stables, Trane Station V covered 400 yards in :19.739 while recording a 91 speed index. Francisco Calderon rode the Favorite Cartel c**t.
Valeriano Racing Stables, Taylor, and Calderon also teamed up to win Saturday's $750,000 Champion of Champions with Flash Bak.
The fastest qualifier, Trane Station V was coming off of a 2 1/2-length win in the sixth of 14 Los Alamitos Two-Million Futurity trials on November 19. The c**t was bred in California by Dr. Steve Burns, and he was purchased by Valeriano Racing Stables for $130,000 at last year's Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. Trane Station V is out of Attack The Cartel, a stakes-winning 14-year-old daughter of the Holland Ease stallion Corona Cartel, and he is a full brother to 2020 Evangeline Downs Futurity (G3) winner Rumor Goin Round.
Trane Station V's second dam, the winning Separatist mare Separate Tac, ran second in champion Strawkins' 2006 Rainbow Derby (G1) at Ruidoso Downs. His third dam, the winning First Down Dash mare Ought To Be Famous, produced I Ought To Be First, a Grade 3-winning half brother to Separate Tac.
Raced in two states, including New Mexico, Trane Station V has won six of nine starts, and the $738,643 winner's share of the purse from his second stakes victory increased his earnings to $1,754,152. The c**t's four wins in four races at Los Alamitos include a 1 3/4-length victory as the fastest qualifier in the October 29, $988,000 Golden State Million Futurity (G1), and he became the first horse to win the both the Golden State Million and Los Alamitos Two-Million futurities as the fastest qualifier. During his summer campaign at Ruidoso Downs, Trane Station V ran second in two Grade 1 futurities, including American Quarter Horse racing's richest race, the September 4, $3-million All American Futurity.
Five Bar Supreme finished second and was followed by Optical Illusion, Checkn Cartel, Apollitical Open MRL, Unrelentless, Southern Divine, AB Wow, and Think Again Kev.
Also on Sunday, Politiko scored a neck victory in the 400-yard, $50,000 Los Alamitos Two-Million Juvenile Stakes. Ridden by Eduardo Nicasio for owner Edward B. Melzer Revocable Trust, and trainer Eddie Willis, The Texas-bred Favorite Cartel c**t posted a 91 speed index while making his trip in :17.716.
