Hampton Roads Obedience Training Club (HROTC)

Hampton Roads Obedience Training Club (HROTC) non-profit organization Our training classes are held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings between 5 and 9 p.m. throughout the year.

HROTC was established in 1947 with the following objectives:
οΏ½To create a stronger bond of companionship between people and their dogs.
οΏ½To conduct training classes for the preparation to compete in obedience trials.
οΏ½To encourage sportsmanlike competition. Training is currently being held at 4452 Hinsdale Street, VA Beach, VA 23462. Courses are five weekly sessions with generally one or two weeks

between each course. The cost for the course is a very reasonable $90.00, and once you have completed two five-week courses, you are invited to join the club. The annual dues are $25.00 for an individual, and $30.00 for family each family member living in the same household. Once you are a member, the training fees are $25.00 per session, per dog, with a stipulation that you volunteer 10 hours per year at our events or serve as a club officer. We are sure you will agree that obedience training is FUN and the best gift you can ever give your dog and your family. Come out and enjoy the company of fellow enthusiasts.

TEASER - Here's a "Heads-up" on what to expect from Sunday's shoot at the Hampton Roads Dog Obedience Club FastCAT. Around 10:30 or so the sun moved into really in a bad place for shooting from the rear of the run so I relocated to the side. I then began to shoot both stop action and slow shutter speed blurs from the side. If you ran after 10:30 check out the "side shots." They show a side of FC that you don't often see.

Unfortunately we are currently having some technical issues with our website and the class purchase feature is unavailable at this time.

We have a request in with the tech team, but unfortunately they are based in Australia...and it happens to be Saturday there. Nobody is working on the weekend.

Can't really blame them, but in the meantime, we are begging your forgiveness for this unavoidable downtime and we hope you'll check back next week to book your class with us.

We'll update everyone when the issue has been ironed out.

Breed Spotlight: Shetland Sheepdog πŸ•

The Shetland Sheepdog, or Sheltie, is a small herding breed known for its intelligence, agility, and beautiful long coat. πŸ‘

Temperament:

β€’ Intelligent & eager to please: Shelties are highly intelligent and eager to learn, making them excellent candidates for obedience and agility training.
β€’ Energetic & active: They need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy.
β€’ Loyal & affectionate: Shelties form strong bonds with their families and are known for their sweet and gentle nature.
β€’ Sensitive & alert: They are sensitive to their owner's emotions and can be prone to barking.

Training Needs:

β€’ Early socialization and consistent training: Expose them to different people, dogs, and environments early on and provide consistent training throughout their lives.
β€’ Positive reinforcement: Use reward-based training methods to motivate and encourage them.
β€’ Mental stimulation: Challenge their minds with puzzle toys, interactive games, and advanced obedience training.

Fun Fact:

Shelties are often called "miniature Collies" due to their similar appearance to their larger herding cousins.

If you own one of these amazing dogs, post a pic in the comments!
