Talk about 4 content little pups 🐶☺️
It's so important that dogs have BALANCE in their lives and it's our job as owners to give them that balance. As much as it's great to play ball with them, let them run around and involve them in high energy activities it's just as important ( if not more so) to give them structured down time and work them mentally. Believe it or not the place bed exercise is extremely valuable for mental enrichment and creating structure in a dogs world. It teaches them to slow down and RELAX on command and what owner doesn't want a nice relaxed dog at the end of the day. Often times I get clients complaining that their dogs are out of control hyper around new people, beg for food, knock down grandma when she comes over, counter surf.... in comes the place bed. Remy
Remington- week 3 place command
Little clip from Remy's lesson today:
This week we worked on impulse control around the place bed. This is lesson one of working on place with Remy, without distractions she was able to successfully hold the place for 5 minutes in a fully relaxed state of mind: in a down with her head resting on the side of the bed and her eyes closed while her mom and I carried on in conversation at the far side of the yard.
I decided after seeing how relaxed she was to up the stakes a bit because I wanted her owner to see the process of getting her to settle down in a more realistic scenario, in this case we brought in one of the other dogs she lives with to step in as a distraction.
It took her a while to get settled down and she eventually did but starting off she was fixated on getting to the other dog.
This video was shot about halfway through the session, and we will continue to work on this behavior next week.
First follow up lesson for Elsa after her board and train was a successful one, we worked on recall, leash skills, and how to properly use the e-collar.
Working on loose leash walking with Ollie and Bella who's owners recently signed their 4 Boston Terriers up with me for an 8 week package. This video was taken towards the tail end of my second session with these dogs, before they could hardly walk them down the street without them constantly straining at the end of the leash.
