Happy New Year!

This is the perfect night to go outside and play with puppies and dogs. All QuietWood puppies are exposed to noises here. Even when we can't count on fireworks, it never fails we have opportunities to go outside and play when neighbors (or family) decide it is time for target practice.

October and November we get fireworks from the nearby Renaissance festival. New Years and Independence Day we for sure have fireworks nearby. And nearly every weekend gun fire.

Also the frequent sounds of workworking/building, hammering, saws, grinding, you name it.

Whenever I hear these things going on, I take the opportunity to take puppies and adults outside to play. You need to have established some fun game like fetch ahead of time. This isn't necessarily the time to introduce a new activity. But go outside and do something that they already think of as fun. Maybe just having you out walking with them. Maybe take a pocket full of cookies and hand them out randomly when there is a big bang.

Continue this even when your dogs are adults and older. Occasionally a dog that has not been sound sensitive can become so later in life. Take time to have some fun when you get these opportunities and chances are good your dog will never have anxiety from storms, fireworks, etc. Note, be safe playing in the rain when lightning is close. Yes, I do go out with them during storms sometimes also!

We love our local Veterinary Clinic which is Beard Navasota Veterinary Hospital. If you are in the area (Navasota, Texas), you cannot do better than this clinic for large or small animals.

Our local clinic does not do the PennHIP x-rays we prefer for health testing so Leo and Wilma (sire and dam of our recent Oops Litter) went to visit our long-time favorite vet for hip and elbow x-rays this morning, Dr. Mary Tatum - currently at Watermark Veterinary Hospital in Brenham, Texas

Breeding and Showing Mastiffs & Spinoni Italiani

We started showing Mastiffs in 1997 and we were hooked. Shortly after the Spinone Italiano was granted regular status with AKC, we got our first girl (2001). We continue to show and breed both of these wonderful breeds. We welcome people to come and meet the breeds and are always available to answer questions about the breeds and our specific dogs.

Bonnie is an approved breed mentor for the parent clubs of each breed and judged at AKC conformation events for approximately 7 years.
