We want to take a moment to express our appreciation to all of our Maxwell’s Refuge supporters. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.

We absolutely love seeing your updates, and previously had welcomed posts directly on our Timeline from you, but lately have been getting a lot of spam, so in order to protect you, we have turned off reviews and commenting, because those are the public facing ways the scammers are getting in. You can always still message us.

As a reminder, never click a link that has been shared with you unless you know it is from a safe source, and if it comes via private messenger or is posted to your friend’s timeline, that does not automatically mean it is safe, so it’s always a good idea to verify (make sure your friend hasn’t been hacked). Also, never share a post that pleads to the masses to help find a missing person or pet, but has the comments turned off. If they’re looking for something, why would they turn the comments off?

Piper and Percy have had such difficult lives.

They both have spent 3+ years in the shelter in Horn Lake, MS. Then, they finally got their big break. An “animal sanctuary” pulled them for rescue. Great news, right?

Wrong. After the shelter followed up with the sanctuary, they learned that they were being neglected and were in horrible shape. The sanctuary wasn’t a sanctuary at all. It was a horrible situation.

Piper and Percy are back at the shelter now. Horn Lake Animal Shelter is way over capacity and has officially run out of room. They are doing everything in their power to save animals. Unfortunately, because they have used every cage, kennel and room, and with more dogs coming in every day, they need to make hard decisions. Piper and Percy have been at the shelter the longest with zero adoption interest. Unfortunately, they are now on the euthanasia list.

After living their entire lives in a shelter, only to then suffer at a supposed “animal sanctuary”, they are now at risk of being euthanized next week. It’s a tragic story.
We are posting this in hopes that somebody, whether a person, family, or rescue, can adopt or pull these sweethearts.

They are both super sweet, love cuddles, and adore playing! They do enjoy eating alone and separately from other animals, so it’s preferred that they are either only pets, or adopted together by a family that knows to feed them separately.

Connie sent a sweet update on Duke. He is the sweetest boy - loves to be in your lap. Loves to give hugs and kisses. He loves our family and his cat brother, Tobie. His favorite words are “walk” and “ride”. He weighs 26 lbs now. He wakes up happy and it lasts all day long. We absolutely love Duke.
