Tyson has been waiting for a home for 281 days at 9 years old! 💔😓 Please share so he can find a home! 💙🙏

Tyson is at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, Wantagh, New York (Long Island).

Shelter Bio:
Tyson's story breaks our hearts. Tyson came to us as a stray, was reclaimed by his owner only to come back again as a stray. After speaking with his owner, we learned some things: They have had Tyson since he was just a few months old. He lived with a child in the home. He would be left outside when his owner went to work because he had some separation anxiety. Tyson doesn't like being outside during thunderstorms (shocker), and would escape the yard during these times. This is why Tyson came to us as a stray. And instead of working on these issues (crate training, working on the separation issues), his owner chose to leave him here and surrender him to us. Our hearts break even more knowing he is now a 9 year old terrier mix, in a shelter filled with dogs just like him. How will he be noticed and picked by a family? We know his chances are slim, and it truly just stinks. Stinks because he has lived his entire life with one family, and after 9 years, he's alone, nothing to show for it. Tyson seems to like other dogs, and we are recommending him for a home with kids 15 and older (even though he did live with a child growing up). Tyson seems house broken, he loves getting out for walks, and can sit for treats. He is a little aloof when first meeting him, but quickly warms up and solicits attention from his new friend. He is a very kind older guy, who doesn't deserve to be without a loving family. Riley. Is. Stunning...! This 8 year old girl was dropped off at the shelter as a stray by her owner. It's ok though, we know her forever home is out there for her. She is such a beauty, weighing in at 60 pounds. She is friendly with dogs, house trained, and knows the commands - sit, down, stay, and both paws. Our sweet senior Labrador Retriever, Freddy is ready for a forever home. At 8yrs old, 76 pounds this friendly fella came to us as a stray and we can't believe no one has come to reclaim him. He is friendly when meeting new people, gets slightly playful but really just loves to be pet. We don't know what type of life Freddy had before arriving to the shelter, but we are going to make sure he has the best adopters. Due to his weak hind legs, Freddy will do best in a calm household where he can enjoy his laid back life-style. We feel he could be alright with another calm senior canine companion; however he would be just as happy to enjoy the attention of being a solo pet. We know Freddy's family is somewhere out there, kids at least 13yrs old, and a yard to enjoy the soft green grass under his paws. Come meet Freddy today, you will fall in love quickly!

Guys, we need to see this sweetie named G5 in a loving home, and need your help. This sweet boy has been through the ringer, and deserves a loving family to love and respect him. Sadly, G5 originally came into the shelter as a stray in 2017. His owner reclaimed, only to turn up in April 2021 in an abandoned house with squatters. No one claimed to know the owner, and it's unclear if anyone was even caring for him. He was found in a crate, with no food or water, and not even a blanket to lay on. Understandably, once at the shelter, G5 was a little unsure of his new environment, but quickly realized we are here to take care of him and show him love he probably was never given. G5 is friendly meeting people, loves to play in the yard, and seems really smart, and eager to learn. Which is very good because it's clear he doesn't know much - probably never having lived in a home, never walked on leash, never house trained, never taught commands. It's so sad because he is 8 years old already, and has so much to learn and experience. G5's ideal home is going to be with patient and savvy owners, kids 17 and older, and no other animals. Yes, we know it is a hard sell, but we need to set G5 up for massive success in the next chapter of his life, he deserves it.

Shelter Bio:
Poor Kira, her owner had to surrender her after the landlord decided they didn't want the dog in the home anymore. She has only ever known life in a house, a place to call her own, her own blanky, her family. At 9 years old, Kira is having to acclimate to shelter life, she is scared and misses her family. We know her next family will be forever and with her amazing personality she will be adopted quickly. Hopefully! Kira is a really sweet girl, she is 9 years old and 66 pounds. She is accustomed to getting groomed, teeth cleaning, ear cleaning, nail trims (Spa Day!) and car rides. She is reactive on leash around other dogs, we recommend her to be in a solo home, where it can just be all about her. She is playful with toys and knows sooooo many tricks. For a tasty treat she can impress you with, "sit, down, stay, come, fetch and drop-it". She loves blankets and rope toys. Upon meeting new people she is friendly and appropriate. We know this sweet pea is going to find her forever family, we just hope it doesn't take too long!!

**SUPER FRIENDLY SENIOR ALERT****
Marv could be our friendly senior cat that just isn't getting enough social media attention! Our pint-sized prince is really the cats MEOW :) He arrived to us in early May with an open wound on his foot; he is all healed and ready to find a forever home. It was during his routine vet care he was diagnosed with diabetes. He is responding well to the medication and we don't want this to prevent him from finding a forever family! Our special fella Marv wants everyone out in the world to know what a friendly guy he is, how happy he would be to become a part of YOUR family!! Marv is recommended for a home with tween aged kids, where he isn't going to be confused as a stuffy animal. While he does solicit attention, he also can easily lay atop a cat tree and watch the world from the safety of inside. Marv is 8 yrs old and is looking for a low-traffic home to call his own. Skittles is a 7 year old male terrier mix who came in as a stray in April 2019. When he came in he was very underweight and nervous of new people and things. Today he is a happy, healthy boy and is looking for his forever home! This fetch loving boy has presented with some guarding behaviors so he needs a dog experienced home with children over the age of 17 years to help him work through his issues. Skittles is under socialized with other dogs so he would need a very specific dog companion or a solo dog home.
