It’s National Dress Up Your Pet Day on January 14, and we want you to go all out. Celebrate by dressing up your furry family member in comfortable pet clothing — maybe even get matching outfits, if you want to get crazy. If it were any normal day, people would be staring at you at your pet in the street. However, on National Dress Up Your Pet Day, matching outfits are not only accepted but also encouraged! Who’s the angel responsible for this holiday? National Dress Up Your Pet Day was started in 2009 by celebrity pet lifestyle expert and animal behaviorist Colleen Paige. It celebrates pets and helps to support the pet fashion community. The chance only comes once a year to wow the neighbors and to unleash the inner diva of your favorite pet, so make sure your pet is dressed for the occasion!

Why is adoption important?

Simply put, you help break the cycle of pet overpopulation.

There are not enough homes for all the animals that are born every year. Adopting from a shelter helps weaken the pet overpopulation cycle. Each year 8 to 12 million dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are euthanized because there are simply not enough homes for them.

🌟 Alien Encounters or Cat Houses? You Decide! 👽🐾

Last night, we were out under the stars setting up extra shelters for our feral cat friends. Of course, we couldn’t resist having a little fun in the process! 😄✨

The feral cats in our community deserve a warm, safe spot to rest, especially during these chilly nights. These shelters are a simple but life-changing way to give them comfort and security.

Big shoutout to everyone who supports our mission and helps us make moments like this possible! 💖

Swipe for our “out of this world” adventures and let us know—did we see a UFO, or are we just that dedicated to the cats? 😜

Visit backstepstrays.org for more information about feral cats, to volunteer, or to donate to help manage community cat populations.

🌟It’s $5 Friday🌟

We need your help in covering the medical expenses of our furry friends in need.

Every week, we rescue strays that require immediate medical attention—everything from routine vaccinations to treatment for illnesses.

This year has been especially tough and our medical bills are piling quickly. We need your help to continue providing the best possible care for our furry friends!

Here's how you can make a difference:

1. **Donate Just $5**: It may seem small, but when we come together, it makes a HUGE impact.

2. **Share This Post**: Spread the word to your friends and family. The more people we reach, the more lives we can save.

3. **Engage with Us**: Comment, like, and share your own stories about rescue animals. Your support keeps us going!

Every little bit helps, and today we're asking our amazing community to pitch in just $5 to support Back Step Strays.

Your generous donation goes a long way in providing essential medical care for our furry friends, including:
Spay/neuter surgeries
Exams
Vaccinations
Medications
Flea & Heartworm prevention

Your $5 contribution can make a big difference!
Together, we can ensure every animal gets the love and care they deserve.

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is the only humane and effective approach to community cats, or unowned cats who live outdoors.

Scientific studies show that TNR effectively addresses the community cat population by ending the breeding cycle, meaning no new kittens are born to a community cat colony. As sound public policy, TNR addresses community concerns, reduces shelter intake and killing, and reduces calls to animal services, all of which save cats’ lives and taxpayer dollars.

When cats are free from the burdens of mating and reproducing, their relationships improve with the people who live near them (think: no more kittens outdoors or yowling, roaming, fighting, or spraying). Additionally, many diseases associated with reproduction, like certain cancers, are prevented.

🐶Here are some tips for introducing your dog to a new dog:

➡️Choose a neutral location: A park or street corner can help your dog feel more comfortable and prevent territorial behavior.

➡️Introduce slowly: Let the dogs approach each other at their own pace.

➡️Supervise interactions: Keep a close eye on the dogs for the first two weeks.

➡️Reward positive behavior: Use treats and pets to reinforce good behavior. For example, if your dog pauses instead of snapping at the new dog, say "good boy".

➡️Watch for signs of discomfort: Look for signs like growling, snapping, or raised fur. If you see these signs, distract the dogs or separate them.
Don't leave them alone: Don't leave the dogs alone together until you're sure they're comfortable.

➡️Keep up your routine: Continue your regular walking and playtime schedule, and make sure both dogs get enough attention.

➡️Consider a professional: If you're still having issues, a professional dog trainer or animal behaviorist may be able to help.
