RIP ARCHIE
Early hours of January 2022 I received a call from my vet that a truck jumper was found in a ditch. 1/2 frozen, pneumonia and lice I went to pick up this sweet boy. We called him Archie. Archie healed from his wounds and was found to be deaf and close to blind in one eye. From day 1 he loved with his entire soul. I tried to integrate him with the other pigs, the instinct that he was disabled showed and no one would accept him. I was able to find him a very special home with the most amazing people (barely 1/4 mile away) He had friends, chickens and goats and a horse! Archie was never a ‘healthy’ boy. He was suspected to have a tumor. Knowing if we put him under anesthesia to diagnose he would never wake up. With ‘farm’ pigs the life expectancy is barely 6 months. He was able to live his best life,even if only for a short time. Archie left this world only knowing love and compassion. His final resting place will be beneath a red delicious apple tree surrounded by black berries. You will be missed sweet boy. Fly high across the rainbow bridge and spread your love to all the wonderful piggies in need of a safe place to call home

Special prayers sent for our friend Ollie. His mom got him as a gift when she was just 10 years old. He was a sweet and funny little man. Our hearts go out to the Hilley family.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Oliver Chops Hilley, known to most as Oliver the Awesome Pig. Born over twelve years ago, Oliver was adopted a month later by Lauren, who adopted him at the age of 10.

Over the years, we've shared the amazing life of Oliver, his mom, and his crazy family and we can't thank this community enough for the support and love that you've shared with us, and more importantly, him.

In the last few months, we have noticed a decline in his overall health. In the last two weeks, it has rapidly fallen. Seeking help, we consulted with a nearby trusted vet. There, they ran testing and imaging on Oliver and unfortunately the prognosis was not well.

Oliver had bone marrow cancer and the arthritis in his bones was worse than they initially anticipated. Lauren had to make a decision on how to best help him, and though it was heartbreaking, she made the loving decision to help him over the rainbow bridge.

At 8:33PM, on January 4th, 2024, Oliver Chops Hilley peacefully passed away, surrounded by his mom, his Grandma “Snakey”, and Lauren’s Grandpa, “Bampaw”. They were in attendance when he was adopted initially, and were blessed to see him and say their final goodbyes.

At this time, we ask for the sake of his mom and the rest of the family that we have the privacy to celebrate and grieve the life of Oliver the Awesome Pig. We will be monitoring the comments and messages that we receive as a result of the news, but we are expecting a response on a scale we have no experience handling. As a result, please know that if we don’t respond to your well wishes personally, we appreciate them all nonetheless.

Fly high across the rainbow bridge Esther the Wonder Pig. May you shine your love and kindness across the sunshine and clouds in the sky. Show your dads Steve Jenkins and Derek Walter and every life you have touched that kindness (and donut’s) IS the answer. I will see you all around me in the lives I am able to save.

She was my best friend, my special girl, my monkey, my muffin, my everything, and I wasn't even close to ready to say goodbye to her, but it was time. I'm not sure how I’ll get passed this, but I have a wonderful support network, including all of you, and will be leaning on them heavily.

To everyone who has been with us on this wild adventure. Thank you. I know Esther was loved by countless people from every corner of the world, and I’ll be thinking about you, too. Thank you for making us a part of your life, and for your support through all of the ups, and downs. I will forever be grateful for every one of you.

I will be taking a little break for the rest of the week to process this. I've been pushed to the limit these past few months (years), but I‘m going to be okay, so please don't worry. I want to make sure you all have the support you need, too, and I’ll be here to provide it. We’ll get through this together.

Sweet dreams, my beautiful girl. If love could have saved you you would have lived forever. And in many ways, and many hearts, you will.
I will dedicate the rest of my life to sharing your story, and helping people understand that we can do better.

Thank you so much to the generous donors that were able to keep Pancakes and Charlotte in their home! Friday myself and an amazing friend did the 3 hour trek to pick up hog panels and install the new fence to insure these gals are secure.
The weight off the family’s shoulders is worth more than the pen!!
YOU, the amazing donors, are why Stan’s Hog Haven is able to do this type of work!

This is Charlotte and Pancakes! Their mom was considering rehoming these beautiful girls because fence repairs are impeded by health issues. She loves these girls and doesn’t want to give them up, but these escape artists are bothering neighbors. T-posts are already installed. $220 is all it will take!!!
7 hog panels is all that is needed for these girls to stay home and give mama some unneeded stress before surgery.
Stan’s Hog Haven is going on Friday to insure these girls are secure and safe.

THIS is why rescues are overflowing and closing. When you decide on a pet it’s FOR LIFE not just until you decide you’re over it

We have had 9 requests for intakes this week because people are moving and their new homes do not allow pigs. People please please please take your piggies with you! You wouldn’t leave your children behind would you?! These sweet babies are as smart as a 3-4 year old toddler and go through major depression when dumped or not rehomed properly. When relocating please find places that allow your animals. We had to turn all these babies away as NONE of them were spayed or neutered. We do not have the funds to take in every animal that is not spayed or neutered unfortunately. Colorado is one of the highest in vet bills and this includes spays and neuters. It amazing us the amount of phone calls we get to take in pigs because they don’t want to deal with simple routine vet expenses. Such as hoof trims. Yes someone wanted to rehome because they didn’t want to pay to have their pigs hooves trimmed. If you cannot do this for the health of your pet please do not get a pet! Unfortunately we cannot take everyone’s pig in because they got to big, didnt know the HOA was going to throw a fit, the dogs don’t like the pig (which dogs and pigs should never be together), or you just lost interest. The average spay and neuter, exam, anesthesia, meds and hospitalization if needed is anywhere from $450-$2400. You do the math when we were asked to take in 9 unaltered pigs this week. We rescues and sanctuaries are not funded like this and a ton of expenses come out of our very own pockets. People do not realize we don’t have vets on site that do all of this for free. We wish we could we really do. Now I will point out that we make sure that when we rehome babies from here they go home either spayed or neutered. We go through background checks, neighborhood and city checks, references, and home visits to make sure that not only is it safe for the pigs but to educate the adopter and make sure they are 100% ready for this experience. Please do not get an animal especially a pig if you can’t make a commitment for life. We are here to help educate you and help you find the perfect piggy. But please do your research and make sure these babies will always be with you. Spay and neuter your pigs as they are much better and healthier pets when this is done.
