We are sharing a request that appears on Daisy Fouts page. Many TROD members know Daisy, as a former TROD member and a trainer that worked with many TROD members and their horses.

Her farm in SC was not significantly impacted by Hurricane Helene, but others are dealing with loss and needs. Daisy and her crew are working to get livestock supplies to impacted areas. Getting there is difficult and they are working with two helicopter pilots to deliver supplies to isolated areas.

If you want to donate to her cause, Venmo and Zelle are the easiest at this point. I did Zelle and used her phone number of 630-917-5622 (Desiree) and she received the donation promptly.

Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and actions. Debra Ranieri

REMINDER: Your support for the Palatine Stables is still needed!

On May 13, the Palatine Park District made the sudden and devastating decision to close the Palatine Stables after this summer season, giving boarders until the end of November to find another barn to board their horses.

This decision was made with no public notice, on the basis of a report received only 10 days prior to the meeting, and one estimate of the repairs necessary (instead of obtaining multiple bids as a public entity is required to do). There have also been delayed or declined FOIA responses, and much uncertainty and concern on the fate of the program horses.

Trail Riders of DuPage stands with the boarders and program participants of the Palatine Stables. We stand alongside other equine riding clubs with our fellow equestrians.

We are asking TROD members to take the following steps:

◾ Please share this post on all your social media accounts.

◾ Visit www dot supportpalatinestables dot info (if we put the link in, it is less likely you will actually see this post) and sign the petition.

◾ Join the SAVE PALATINE STABLES group on Facebook to stay up to date on the latest developments.

You will receive a template for a letter that may be emailed to the park district board of commissioners and the village board. The volunteers behind the SPS group have put a lot of heart and time into crafting the points you will be sent to include in your letter if you are not sure where to start. Your personal experiences and stories of how horses have influenced your life are the most important part of the letter. You do not need to have ridden at Palatine Stables, or live in Palatine, to send a letter.

◾ Finally, there is a public meeting next week that needs supporters of the Stables and equestrian activities overall to attend, and make it known that the equestrian community is proud to stand with our friends and fellow horseowners during this critical time.

Horse behavior and herd observation event was a big success! Everyone enjoyed watching the herd, in the paddock and then in the pasture. Joyce DeZutti gave a demonstration of how to do advance retreat to catch a horse. Some enjoyed just being with the horses from the sidelines, others tried out the new skill of advance retreat, and took the challenge of greeting each horse. We had 13 in attendance and signed up 5 new TROD members! Thank you to Joyce, Galusha Farms & Everyone who worked together to make this event Hands on, Informative and Fun!

We're in the final stages of organizing our July 3rd evening Warrenville parade. The theme this year is "Hometown Pride" and we will be decking out horses, ponies, riders and walkers to represent the businesses in Warrenville. A lot of creativity is going on here.

If you would like to join in the fun, let us know. Send us a PM, email (TrailRidersDC@gmailcom) or give us a call.

In the 1944 movie National Velvet, then-12-year-old Elizabeth Taylor played the character Velvet Brown, who won a horse in a raffle and went on to fulfill racing dreams. Classic books such as My Friend Flicka and Misty of Chincoteague — as well as multitudes of more recent ones — also portray the incredible bond between humans and the horses they love.

Not all horses go on to win races and bring fame to their owners. Many live their entire lives simply as beloved companions. And that’s what art director Derry Noyes wanted to capture in the new release of the Horses Forever® stamps.
