July 4th Tips and Tricks to minimize stress for you and your pet during fireworks celebrations.
1. Desensitize your pet early.
2. Create a safe space away from windows or turn the lights on to minimize light flashes.
3. Elevate your crate (if your pet is already crate trained) off the ground to absorb the concussions from large fireworks.
4. Use a Bluetooth speaker tuned to a channel with 396 Hz to create a calming ambient sound. Or, tune it to something with a beat if your pet responds better to that.
5. Take your pet on a walk and make sure they are tired before the fireworks.
6. Leash up during potty breaks no matter the time of day. Don’t rely on a fence to contain your pet when a firework goes off.
7. Make sure your tag and microchip are up to date.
8. If using pharmaceuticals, ask your vet for something without acepromazine because it only sedates the body. The brain is not sedated and will still feel fear and adrenaline of fight or flight.
9. Pick up CBD treats! We would love to get you set up with a CBD that actually works. Our CBD treats work on the brain and the body to help keep your pet calm.

We have some very special residents today. Did you know opossums are excellent neighbors? One opossum can eat up to 5,000 ticks a season, and they don’t carry rabies due to their low body temperature. Mamma was hit by a car, and these babies were hiding in her pouch. Baby opossums frequently survive when mom is hit by a car. Fortunately we found these guys this morning in the rain on the way to work. They are warm and dry and awaiting wildlife rehab pickup. When possible, keep wild things wild.❤️
