Life is funny and has a way with surprises. This video was taken about 2-3 months after Chance came to us. It's pretty funny how he clearly knew he was in a house of love, and we were still in the mindset of rehabilitating him and eventually placing him in an only dog home. Little did we know y months later he and Fury would become bestest of friends when we allowed them to play together, and that sealed the deal for him being able to stay, permanently.

He has definitely stolen our hearts, and I'm so excited to be in a class with Amy Cook, founder of The Play Way! to learn how therapeutic play can help Chance with eventually being neutral around dogs he doesn't know which would open up so many opportunities for us!

We know he has a pretty great life as it is, but I will always strive to give him the very best we possibly can.

I started an online class last week that provides individualized coaching from Amy Cook, founder of The Play Way. We will learn how to use therapeutic play to help Chance when he sees or is in the presence of other dogs. She complimented the groundwork I've laid with him and stated my goal to have him be neutral around other dogs so we can attend more events, competitions, etc. is very rreasonable.

One of our first video assignments was to give her an idea of how Chance is in play with toys, and with food, tricks, etc., without playing fetch.

Please forgive my white top, not the most flattering, but it wasn't my focus in the moment- stay focused on Chance's "awoos"! I finally caught these on video. He frequently awoos when he is excited for something such as his meal or going outside or when we come home. He normally initiates the awoos, but has started to reciprocate even if we are the ones who initiate it, as long as he is in an excitable mood!

Last year, the same family who asked us to take Chance reached out for help with finding Chance's mama, Harley, rescue. I reached out to Midwest American Rottweiler Rescue and a few months later we fostered Harley for a week until she went to her foster home. She was so sweet and gentle, and shared many quirks with Chance such as sneezing when excited, being vocal when excited, being super snuggly, and taking treats gently. She also knew some of the same tricks!

I didn't hear anything after Harley made it to her foster so this week I reached out to ask how she was doing.

Harley was adopted by her foster family! She lives on a farm, respects the chickens, loves the word "go" and going for car rides, loves to snuggle and be close to her people!

I received a couple of photos from her adoptive family!

This makes my heart so happy she landed in a loving home able to give her the time and attention she so desperately wanted and deserved!

May 10, 2024! Chance and I earned our first title in NASDA: Trailing and Locating Rats!

Yes, he wears a muzzle when around dogs he doesn't know, and it's for the best as he doesn't know other doggies can be friends. I'm very grateful for NASDA as they allow dogs to be on long line and muzzled for their lower levels. This means Chance gets the opportunity to play and succeed at something too!

It's ok to accommodate your dog's needs in order for them to explore the world; think of it as "inclusivity" for dogs, just like we have for people.

Harley has really enjoyed her 1:1 time tonight! She loves chasing the ball, playing tug, and chewing on antlers! She very much enjoys being outside and has nose to the ground a lot. She really LOVES giving kisses, laying in the lap with her head against your chest and tucked under your chin while she gets belly rubs.

She did fabulous today getting her Vax. and HW test at the vet's office. She goes to M.A.R.R. foster on Friday to then transport to her full time foster Sat. morning.

She has beautiful big eyes, I call them Bambi eyes, it's hard to capture in a photo because she is so wiggly!

You might think this is Chance- surprise,,it's Chance's MAMA! After their owner died as a victim of domestic violence their owner's dogs went to different family members, except for Chance who has some dog aggression. Chance came to me for rehab. and ended up meshing in to our family quite well, so he stayed!

Two years later and following the family member's major medical issue, the family found themselves of needing help with finding placement for Harley.

In January I reached out to Midwest America Rottweiler Rescue about Harley, and they were full but put her on a waiting list. Last week an opening was available and the vote confirmed placing Harley in a foster home opening!

I picked up Harley last night and will foster her until Friday when she will travel hundreds of miles to her foster placement.

Tomorrow, Meow Mission Inc. will cover her needed vaccinations and HW test and health certificate needed for out of state rescue.

Harley and Chance:

*are both highly affectionate: love laying in the lap, rolled over and pawing for belly rubs
*sneeze, and bark, when excited (it's funny to see)
*are flight risks- if they get loose, it's very difficult to catch them
*knew how to sit and shake when they came to me
*are very stout, strong dogs!
*they both LOVE using their nose and make the grunt like sound when picking up scent
*love being outside

I'm so happy we are able to partner with Meow Mission to provide a more comfortable space for these dogs until rescue is secured! We cleaned out a few wheelbarrows of yuck, laid down fresh straw, and provided buckets with fasteners so food stays clean and dry and water stays more clean as well! Thankful for the close friends and neighbors who are feeding and watering the dogs twice a day.
Su***de does have victims beyond the one who died, these dogs are one example.

Wishing all the pups well in their next chapter.

These pups now have clean kennel runs bedded down with straw, and hanging buckets for food and water to keep it clean and prevent spilling. Their owner died by su***de and we are assisting with networking for rescue. In addition to the physical labor and supplies we assessed these dogs individually to help rescues determine appropriate placement. We are so very grateful for the close friend and neighbors who are helping to feed and water the dogs twice a day. All of the 4 dogs are very sweet and would love to have a furever family of their own!

Chance sure loves people, he and his brothers were the stars of the Christmas party today! Gramma got them matching shirts and a sweet little girl placed headbands on Chance which he didn't mind one bit!

A short video of Chance working on recall and "easy", which I use to ask him to not pull so hard. We haven't worked on this a whole lot, notice how he is correcting himself when I stop walking and there is tension, he comes back to me for a reward. He is catching on quickly!
