Some times our stories don't end with adoption photos, but we think they are just as important to share with you.

Our volunteers have been working to spay/neuter and vaccinate a colony of 23 feral cats and they were finally able to help two cats who have been evading their efforts. Thankfully, just in time as this gal here was suffering from a significant case of pyometra. Pyometra is a preventable infection that occurs in the female reproductive tract of cats who are not spayed. The best and only way to prevent pyometra is to spay your cat.

Thankfully, our friends at Potter League Spay & Neuter Clinic were able to treat her infection with surgery and she has been recuperating before being returned to her home.

RI is home to many stray cats in need of help. Ten Lives believes that we need a systematic, multi-pronged approach to improve the lives of cats in our community. It's not an easy problem, but it's a solvable problem.

If you want to improve the lives of cats and solve big problems, join our team and let's get to work.

In order to keep all of our staff, volunteers and visitors safe during this surge in COVID-19 cases, the Potter League will be reinstituting our mandatory face covering policy in all of our facilities effective August 11th.

We kindly ask any and all visitors, including those vaccinated against COVID, to please wear a face mask while inside our Middletown, Warwick, and East Providence facilities.

As we have from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are following the latest guidance from the CDC and RI Department of Health. We remain hopeful that this is a temporary measure, and we’ll be able to lift the mask requirement again in the near future. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Last year we announced that the Potter League was taking over the Rhode Island Community Spay and Neuter Clinic which is now named the Potter League Spay and Neuter Clinic.

And what a year it has been! The clinic had to close temporarily due to COVID-19 restrictions, but is now getting back up to full speed. We are in the process of rescheduling over 500 postponed surgeries and trying to schedule as many new surgeries as possible while keeping our staff and clients safe.

Please take a moment, and learn all about the important work the spay and neuter clinic does for Rhode Island and neighboring states by watching this video and as you learn, please consider supporting the important work being done here.

The work our spay and neuter clinic is doing is really at the heart of the success our state and entire region has seen for animal welfare. Please take a moment and donate to help them continue their work. Every dollar donated will be matched dollar for dollar by our Board of Directors.

Please know that we know you all want to do the very best for your pets, and we are grateful that our phones have been rining non-stop since we re-opened. We thank you for everyone's continued patience during this difficult time and please know we are doing our very best to accomodate you all.

**IMPORTANT**

These are challenging times for all of us. There are so many unknowns about the risk of COVID-19 and how this may affect us all. One great comfort many of us have is that while we are at home is our ability to spend time with our pets. The animals in our lives are a source of comfort in the most trying times, and I’m sure that all of our animal companions are happy to have someone home with them all day.

At the same time there have been many questions and concerns about how to interact with animals during this crisis and whether they bring additional risks. Infectious disease experts and multiple international and domestic human and animal health organizations agree there is NO EVIDENCE at this point to indicate that pets spread COVID-19 to people.

And while it’s not fun to imagine, now is an important time to create a plan for your pet in case you get sick. The best place for your animal is inside the home they know and love, however if you do become too ill to physically care for your pet or you need to be hospitalized, who can take over for you?

We strongly encourage you gather any members of your household and walk through the following steps to ensure your animals will be well cared for in the event of an emergency. With your whole family on board and a plan in place, you’ll feel a bit better about your pet’s safety knowing they’re in good hands no matter what challenges may arise ❤

We've created an easy and important downloadable checklist to help with what your plan should include. For more info, please visit https://www.potterleague.org/covid-19-updates/

UPDATE: The Potter League Spay & Neuter Clinic will remain closed until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your continued patience and support as we navigate this situation together.

⚠️⚠️The Potter League Spay & Neuter Clinic will be closed for the week.⚠️⚠️

The threat of Coronavirus ( -19) has generated understandable concerns in our community. The health, safety, and well-being of clinic clients, donors, community partners, staff, volunteers – and all of the animals in our care – is our top priority. Additionally, the procedures we perform are all elective so no animals who are ill will go without treatment because of the closure.

This is a rapidly changing situation and we appreciate your continued patience and support as we navigate it together.

The Potter League Spay & Neuter Clinic is monitoring the circumstances very closely and are reviewing our operations on a daily basis to protect the health and safety of our community.

Thank you,
Potter League Spay & Neuter Clinic Team

03/13/2020

The health and safety of our pets, the community, our staff, and volunteers is our top priority and we are closely monitoring the situation regarding the spread of COVID-19. If we cannot keep our staff and volunteers healthy, we cannot care for the 80 animals currently housed at our facility. We are taking steps to minimize face-to-face interactions, as everyone is going to need to keep practicing social distancing for the foreseeable future. Here’s what that looks like here at the Potter League Spay & Neuter Clinic:

1. Scheduled Appointments will proceed as normal, however we have modified our intake procedure, so only a few people will be let in at a time to check in. Please plan on more than an hour for check-in time.

2. If you are feeling ill or have had contact with anyone that has or might have Coronavirus, please do not visit our facilities. If you have a scheduled appointment, please call us to reschedule.

3. If you have recently traveled outside of the country, please follow the CDC’s recommendations on self-quarantine after travel and please do not visit our facilities. If you have a scheduled appointment, please call us to reschedule.

4. As a standard best practice, we ask that all pets have proper ID tags with contact information and that their microchip is up to date. This will help your neighbors get your pet back to you in the event they go missing, and will prevent them from having to enter the shelter.

5. We recommend everyone prepare by enabling yourselves to quarantine at home for up to 14 days, which for most of us would include the ability to care for pets during that time.

6. We have increased our daily cleaning routine, particularly in common areas and frequently used surfaces. We have made sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer available. We understand that the situation with Coronavirus continues to evolve. As stated we are monitoring the situation and continue to follow recommendations provided by the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the State Veterinarian. We will update you as plans change due to situational needs.

Any questions or concerns, please call us at (401) 369-7297.

It's World Spay Day! What does that mean? Well, World Spay Day is a day to shine a very bright spotlight on how spay/neuter is a proven way of saving the lives of companion animals and community cats.

And we're celebrating because – can we get a drum roll please? To date this clinic has performed over 69,000 spay & neuter surgeries! Wow! Just wow.

Bravo to everyone who has played a part in working toward this life saving goal – all of our staff, our shelter & rescue partners, our clients, and everyone who has shared the important message of spaying & neutering — thank you.
