WWAS is a rural shelter located about 40 miles east of Athens. We specialize in both cat and dog adoptions and occasionally small animal adoptions. We only accept owner surrenders and/or strays from Wilkes county residents.

Shady, adopted from us in April, is on yet another road trip with her family. This time in Savannah and Gatlinburg. This girl is really having the time of her life and she should😍 Keep logging in the miles, Shady!!!

Tongue out Tuesday!!!
Clayton is the most laid back dog at the shelter. He is calm, gentle and so mellow that we often use him around other dogs to "test" how they react. He does chase cows. He really is a very nice, friendly guy who would make a great family dog or a companion for someone who wants a "lower-key" type dog. He is 4-5 years old, weighs 45-50 lbs., is up to date with his vaccinations, heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped and just your basic "mixed breed" dog.

Binky is a young, 6 month old female who is looking for her forever home. She is current with vaccinations, FIV/FeLV negative and we will spay her. She is friendly and she gets along with the other cats at the shelter. Call or come by the shelter to meet her.

FIND A HOME FRIDAY!!!
Coco was adopted from us and returned because his owner is moving and cannot take him. We hate to see him back with us, but hope it will be a short stay. He is a 3 year old Chocolate Lab mix, who is ❗️HOUSETRAINED❗️, current with vaccinations, heartworm negative, neutered and chipped. he is a really sweet boy, good with people, kids and other dogs and walks well on a leash. He is still young, but out of the puppy stage and would be a great companion for an active person or would be a great family pet. Please SHARE,SHARE,SHARE and let's get Coco into another home quickly. If you think coco would be the right dog for you, call or come by the shelter and meet him.

It's a crummy day out and Dumplin is happy to stay in the bed. this 2 year old, long haired male would love to be in the bed in his forever home. He is FIV/FeLV negative, dewormed, current with vaccinations, neutered and good with other cats. He is a handsome boy, but really didn't want a picture taken.

Two of our kitties who are waiting for their forever homes. Marvelous is a 6 month old female and Gravy is a 9 month old female. Both are FIV/FeLV negative, current with vaccinations and dewormed. Gravy is spayed and Marvelous will be when adopted or fostered. Both are very friendly and good with other cats.

If you were at the I'd Rather Be In Tignall Festival on Saturday, hopefully, you had a chance to meet Mater. Sweet boy who is all Beagle--happiest when his nose is to the ground. He is under 2 years of age, current with his vaccinations, heartworm negative, neutered and microchipped. He is very friendly, affectionate, good with kids, good with other dogs and while he chases cats, he doesn't do anything to them, just chases. Stop by the shelter and meet Mater.

Snickers getting some attention from Miss Tammy😍

Snickers had a nice visit with Miss Vivian yesterday. This one year old Catahoula mix has been at the shelter for 7 months which is over half of his life. A sweet, loving boy, gets along with everybody including other dogs. He is up for anything so he would be a good buddy for active people, but he also thinks he's a lap dog, so chilling on the couch would work, too. He is fully vetted--current vaccinations, heartworm negative, neutered and chipped. If you want to meet him, come by the shelter or stop by Last Stop Coffee + Provisions in Tignall this Saturday, October 26, 2024. Snickers will be there for a few hours in the morning and we should have some mums for sale.

A huge THANK YOU to Maggie for holding Buttercup during the ceremony. buttercup was honored to represent our shelter and shelters everywhere who have wonderful dogs and cats awaiting their forever home. Buttercup is available for adoption. She is an 11 week old mixed breed-Lab, Boxer, Hound, Pit, it's all in there. Sweet little girl who needs a forever home.

Time to come by the church for Blessing of the Animals. Buttercup is representing all shelter dogs.

Update—he has been adopted and is just waiting to be neutered /chipped before he can go home. FIND A HOME FRIDAY!!!! A hot dog with a pup cup😍Turkey had a day out and went to our downtown square for a walk and some treats. He absolutely loved his pup cup from The Nest and his Pup-eroni treats. He was nervous on the ride from the shelter to the square. He trembled the whole way, but once we parked and he got out he was ready to explore and check things out. On the ride back to the shelter, he was a pro at car riding and didn't feel the need to stay in my lap, but explore the car and everything in it. He did great meeting people, but he needs more work on leash walking, but he is an expert at sitting in your lap and cuddling. He is 6 months old, a Brindle Dachshund mix, current with his vaccinations and heartworm negative. He is good with kids and so far has been okay with other dogs, but please , if you have a dog, bring them to meet him. He is a great little guy who deserves to get out of the shelter and live his life with a loving family. Please SHARE,SHARE,SHARE and let's help Turkey find a home. Brick 🩶 Brick is a Shelter Staff Favorite!! He has been with us for 682 Days!! He is a Bull Terrier mix and weighs 74lbs. He is a sweet and silly little man!! He loves everyone and is good with other dogs. He is heartworm negative and UTD on all vaccines including rabies. Come by and meet this handsome boy!!

Sonny enjoying having some office time! Sonny is a 4 and a half year old Polish Hound/Lab mix. He is a big boy weighing in at 74lbs. He has been with us for 632 days!!! He is, for the most part, a calm boy and knows a lot of commands! He loves to play and craves human affection. Sonny is such a good boy and deserves the absolute best!
