WWAS Pets This is an independent community page that aids WWAS residents to find adopters through social media. These funds provide for the operation of the shelter only.

WWAS is a rural shelter located about 40 miles east of Athens. We specialize in both cat and dog adoptions and occasionally small animal adoptions. We only accept owner surrenders and/or strays from Wilkes County residents. The shelter is funded by the City of Washington and Wilkes County. The Washington Wilkes Humane Association (WWHSA) was created to help with expenses ( medical surgeries, spay

, neuter, vaccinations, etc.) not covered by the City/County funding. The WWHSA is a 501(c)3 and all donations are tax deducible.

FIND A HOME FRIDAY!!!
Kitana ,who acted so well during her visit with Santa, is a little bummed that she didn't find a home for Christmas and that the shelter is under quarantine , so she will need to wait a while longer. She is a very sweet and loving girl who ended up at the shelter because she does not like cats. She is a 4-5 year old American Bully and is registered with the American Bully Kennel Club. She is 60 lbs., current with her vaccinations, heartworm negative, spayed, good with dogs, children and does well on a leash. After quarantine is lifted, come by and meet this sweet girl. SHARE,SHARE,SHARE and let's get Kitana in a home in 2026.

Douglas was out on the square tonight for Sip and Shop here in Washington. He had a great time meeting so many people and getting lots of attention. He is in a foster home now, but hoping to find a forever home. Let us know if you are interested and we can put you in touch with his foster.

Tongue out Tuesday!!!
After waiting in the long line to see Santa, Pluto needed to rest. Santa told her it was okay and that he understood. She asked Santa why she was at the shelter because she didn't understand. She had a family and then she didn't ( her family is moving and cannot take Pluto with them). She wants another family for Christmas so she doesn't spend her life at the shelter. She is a 3-4 year old mixed breed, up on vaccinations, heartworm negative, friendly, sweet, good with other dogs. Come by the shelter and meet Pluto.

Douglas had a fun trip to Tractor Supply Co. and the dog park with the little dogs. Well behaved in the store, great on his leash and of course had a blast stretching his legs at the park. If you think you could give Douglas a forever home, please reach out and we can connect to his foster.
