RCO Pet Care and Where Sit Happens have teamed up to host a supply drive/fundraiser for pet owners and rescues that have experienced losses due to the August 18th flooding. This post will act as the "hub" for everything related!
FOR THOSE IN NEED:
If you have been affected by the floods and are in need of pet supplies, food, vet care, funds to board your dog, etc. please message us and we'll be happy to help however we can!

We have teamed up with a number of small businesses and professionals who are donating everything from kibble to wellness exams. Just let us know what you need - we're here for you!
FOR THOSE LOOKING TO DONATE:
We are collecting donations at our Where Sit Happens training facility located at 340 Center Rock Green in Oxford. If we are not in you can drop off donations at The Better Beagle Co. (right next door). Our friends at Evergreen Veterinary Clinic have also offered to be a drop off point if you are on that side of the plaza!
DONATIONS MADE:
We want to be as transparent as we possibly can with where your donations and/or funds are going. We have kicked this off with a $1,000 donation and will be distributing as we are contacted and/or find pets and families in need.
So far a total of $1,190 has been collected as well as kibble and a harness and leash.

$250 to Animals for Life
$100 to Loyal Paws Rescue & Sanctuary
$100 in to Cathy's House Of Chickens
$100 to local family with pups
Cat tree to local family who lost theirs in the flood
Please share and/or tag rescues and people who can benefit from a helping hand!

Our Tide Cleaner neighbors across the way had their entire business flood but Quarry Walk has put them up just a few doors down from us! They are holding a "Loads of Hope" service. If you or a loved one have suffered due to flooding they can give you a hand with some free laundry.

This will help keep their small business afloat while they sort out next steps

Info about our Where Sit Happens classes!

Alright friends, here's the deal. Quarry Walk is technically accessible... emphasis on technically. But there are a few problems we're running in to.
1️⃣ We've got trainers and students coming from different towns who are not familiar with Oxford roads and we are finding Google/Apple maps are not staying totally up to date with closures.
2️⃣ As we saw with the collapse of half of Chestnut Tree Hill Extension today, even the passable roads are struggling and not completely safe. I'm concerned with how some of them will handle so much traffic.
3️⃣ The traffic is unpredictable which is difficult when we have people trying to get classes at strict start times from all over. We have people getting delayed 10-40 minutes at no fault of their own.
4️⃣ There are going to be some busy events at Quarry Walk both Thursday and Saturday which may worsen traffic and effect sensitive dogs.
⚠️We are going to make the decision to cancel classes through Sunday, 8/25 and will reassess. It's just not worth your safety. ⚠️
With that being said, we have some fun things in the works for our members to stay engaged and practicing over the remainder of the week - you'll hear from me tomorrow!

This down time will also be used to finalize our Fall schedule, get ready to launch new, much anticipated classes and organize the supply drive (we will also provide updates for tomorrow).

Currently scheduled in-home private sessions will continue as planned unless you are otherwise notified.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I am here to help however we can. I'm so sorry we're being forced to make these decisions but your safety, our team's safety and your pup's safety is worth a handful of missed classes... we have many more to come!

Talk soon! 💜

RCO Pet Care and Where Sit Happens will be hosting a pet supply drive to help flood victims.

Rescues such as Animals for Life in neighboring Naugatuck had to evacuate the animals and are dealing with serious losses. We know rescue is hard enough on a regular day!

Beyond rescues, many of your neighbors and friends have lost everything. We might now know how to fill a driveway but we have lots of pet loving connections! 💜

We will kick this off with a $1,000 donation (monetary or supply equivalent depending on what is needed). We will be accepting new or lightly used pet supplies, food, Chewy gift cards and getting them to those who need it.

If you, your local rescue, or your neighbor need to rebuild and have pets in their lives, please have them reach out to [email protected] with what they need.

We will add more details and as they become available!

For everyone’s safety and sanity we are going to have to cancel all classes for today (Tuesday) and will reasses for Wednesday soon.

Unfortunately we have multiple dog/handlers team and trainers who have been unable to access Quarry Walk today.

We are so sorry 😞

Hello, Pet Parents.

As many of you know, we are based out of Oxford, CT and are lucky enough to have an incredible community of pet parents we work with 365 days a year.

As many of you also know, there has been a catastrophic amount of flooding in Oxford and some surrounding towns that completely washed away roads, cars, bridges... we're not sure how to put the severity into words.

A HUGE shout out to our team for handling this during what may be one our biggest pet sitting weekend in town this year. We have been in communication with clients who have pets in our care and are doing our very, very best to get to everyone safely.

Some visit times have been tweaked and visit lengths shortened to help ensure the safety. If there is a change in your visit time your invoice will be updated and your account credited the different automatically.

We will continue communicating with clients to ensure your fur babies are safe, the condition of homes and roads, etc.

What's it like where you are?

Please stay safe, Oxford.
