Tuesday's Teaching...
"It must be really hard to be a death doula."
I've heard that a lot since I received my professional certificate two years ago.
Yes, it is really hard. Seeing the pain and grief of losing your companion animal breaks my heart into a million pieces every time.
But it's also a sacred honor to walk beside someone who loves their companion so deeply that they have chosen to give them a good death, or a home better suited, or bravely faced the reality that their companion is deeply hurting and gives them a compassionate release.
To make these decisions is an agonizing ask of the loving bond between guardian and companion. They need to talk it through, feel the weight of the pain in a safe space, cry, get angry, fall apart, and finally put the pieces together again; often in a new arrangement that allows for growth from the learning and love that came with their relationship.
I am here to walk beside and bare witness to this tender time in their lives. Whether it's an ear, a book, a ritual, a ceremony, or support through the end of life experience, I'm here to do what I can...
Yes, it's hard, but when we begin our journey together, I'm here with you to travel the straight aways, the winding and the curves, and the final destination...
