Good morning! Sven is still looking great! Total protein keeps going up and white blood cell count has normalized as of this morning - he still has a great appetite and has not had any fevers after we decreased his banamine yesterday!

Plan is to take his catheter out and take him off his banamine today to see how he does without any banamine - He still has had some loose manure but if he keeps progressing in this way he should be able to go home soon! :) possibly tomorrow!!

To support raising for Sven, one of our Therapeutic Riding students (pictured below) wrote this sweet note about him:

Sven has been my riding buddy since I started at Butterfly Dreams. When I was asked to write about how he has influenced me, I found myself uncharacteristically speechless. How do I say how much I love him, how much he means to me? How do I express what it's like to lean down from the saddle and hug his neck when my brain goes too fast and he calms me down? How he both gives me confidence when I'm free reining and he listens to me, but also challenges me to do better? How he is so regal one moment, looking like a knight's steed from a fairy tale, then making me laugh out loud when he decides to play in the water trough, shaking his head with loose lips to fling water everywhere? A week ago or so, I was too weak to ride, but was able to sit in my wheelchair and visit with him at his stall. I was able to reach up and scratch his neck and jaw, and he put his head on my shoulder. It was a
really special moment, and I treasure it.
Sven is a really special horse, and I hope and pray that he can get the help he needs to pull through this illness so he can keep giving the help and love that he gives so many of us at Butterfly Dreams Farm.

Update on Sven as of 8/12 at 9:15 AM: Sven is bright, eating well, and his blood protein level has increased from 4.2 to 5.0 which is a huge win. He continues to need fluids and other treatments, but we are heading in the right direction! Thank you so much for your support! Please keep sharing as we still have a ways to go but he is fighting!

Sven is still unwell. He is at the hospital now. His tummy is upset. He is in a lot of pain and has a fever. His primary diagnosis is colitis and colic. We don’t know what’s causing this which is one of the reasons he is at the vet school. Send prayers our way!

Our horses got a little watermelon treat today thanks to one of our riders! Watermelon is great for hydration, it provides vitamins and minerals and is safe for horses to eat (especially on hot days 😎).

⭐️Fun Fact Friday!⭐️
Did you know that horses drink with their lips pursed? It’s similar to how we drink through straws! They don’t lap up water like a dog or cat by using their tongue.

These guys were dedicated to ensure all twigs (hanging and on the ground) were cleared for our riders to use the trails this summer.
