Our Story
The horse stands majestic and tall. A sacred creature beloved for centuries, an equine’s spiritual being evokes many emotions and an often seamless connection to the human soul. To the Native American, the horse represents both the power of the earth and the wisdom of the swirling spirit winds. The horse is valued, revered and respected as wild and free. (1) Welcome to PREGNANT MARE RESCUE. Within our dedicated equine rescue, rehabilitation center and temporary sanctuary, the spirit of the horse is protected, alive and well as comfort and love are truly timeless for all of us.
PREGNANT MARE RESCUE rehabilitates and re-homes abused and mistreated horses to forever dwellings where they will be genuinely cherished and loved. Advocates in support of the humane treatment of all horses, PMR strives to educate the public about the horrific cruelties and ill-treatment towards racehorses, our dwindling wild mustang herds and pregnant mares used for the production of the drug Premarin. Finally, we provide opportunities for children to experience the magic and wonder of horses. At PREGNANT MARE RESCUE, horses are healers. It is through the natural horsemanship philosophy of harmony between human and animal - not intimidation – that our horses become mentors. Miracles can and do happen when the broken horse has an opportunity to fix the broken child.
What once began as an effort to protect mares and their foals from horrors of impending slaughterhouse floor has become a lesson about love, about healing souls and hearts - both human and horse.
