Sweet Stella & Petey Stella and Petey are sweet Brittanys that were adopted within a few months of each other. Sammie was a beautiful soul who loved everyone!

This page began with the adoption of � Sweet Sammie, a blind rescue dog from American Brittany Rescue (ABR). She had multiple medical issues that her brother Cooper helped her through. Sammie and Cooper were with me through many life changes, including finding my passion in life, orangutans �! We moved from CO to FL so I could work at my dream job, the Center for Great Apes. Sammie passed away sho

rtly after our arrival in FL. During that time I became very focused on raising money for orangutans through my Color Street business, Sparkle for Orangutans with Darlene. A few years later I wanted to adopt a companion for Cooper. He had Mei who passed within 4 months of adoption and then Stella for a few months before he passed away from a brain tumor. Like Sammie, Stella is blind and absolutely adorable! Sammie taught me a great deal and it has enabled me to be a good mom to Stella.

🐾💗 Hi friends!

It’s been a few weeks since our last update—life has been keeping us on our toes! Petey and Stella are both doing great and making sure the yard gets plenty of use.

We’ve had a special guest, our friend Mollie, stayed with us recently. She’ll be back for an extended two-week stay soon while her mom (and my dear friend) Niki enjoys her honeymoon after her wedding! I’m honored to be a bridesmaid and have been busy helping her prepare for the big day.

We also had our holiday open house at the great ape sanctuary, and after all the prep work, it turned out to be such a wonderful event! With the holidays coming up and the wedding in January, it looks like life will stay busy—but in the best way.

🐾💗 Hey friends, it’s me, Stella! You’ll notice in this video how I lift my legs a bit higher when I walk. It’s one of my tricks to help me feel what’s in front of me since I can’t see where I’m going. I do pretty well most of the time, but you might catch me bumping into something here and there.

Even though I can’t see, I don’t let that slow me down. I’m always exploring my world, one step (or bump) at a time! 💕 Thanks for cheering me on!

Hi friends! I tried posting earlier but the internet has not been working well. We made it through Milton without any serious damage to the sanctuary or our home. Everyone, ape and human are doing just fine! Lots of cleanup happening at the sanctuary. Thankfully, I was able to bring Stella and Petey home nice and early yesterday. We are without power. We’ve just kept both doors open for a breeze and light. I am praying that we get power back soon! How is everyone else doing?
