Mega esophagus is a dog ailment. The esophagus can no longer move food from the throat to the stomach. The photo shows her first day and a more recent day of feeding in what is referred to as a Bailey Chair. It holds the dog in a vertical position so gravity can assist the food travel to the stomach. Choco will be 11 years old in July.

As our 2024 tracking season winds down, I would like to express my appreciation to all the followers and hunters that contacted us. I would like to thank those that allowed us to run both dogs on your track. In most cases, the results were the same. In a few cases the older/more experienced dog was able to prove otherwise.

These efforts have highlighted the area and characteristics of younger-dog training tracks we will be working on before 2025 season.

We were happy to share details and communications from the dog as they track. Watching both work individually reflects the style, experience and energy difference of these dogs. This is the 8+ years of experience vs first year experience.

We are available for late-season tracking or if you simply wish to discuss details about your hunt or the deer’s reaction. Remember-I’d much prefer to receive your call too early rather than too late. Call at the first moment of doubt.

We have been very busy the last few days. Unfortunately, not a lot of photos to show. Our most interesting track of yesterday spanned several hours of tracking effort. The hunter’s shot opportunity was near last daylight the evening prior. We arrived 8:30AM. I put Reagun (she’s 2.5 YO) on the track and she took us nearly 600 yards beyond their POL and then signaled this deer track is not viable.
I had both dogs along in the vehicle. We switched to Choco (10.5 YO). She repeated Reagun’s work and took us an additional 476 yards further to a bed with wet sign within. Her enthusiasm ramped, further confirming that the deer had just left the bedding area. We did not see the deer. It traveled across a frozen tilled field 570 yards to a property line.

Ultimately, Reagun was not wrong. There is merit in Choco’s extending the track even though it did not result in a deer in hand. Some would say the second dog’s effort was a waste of time and energy. Others would say the information of the extended track is meaningful to the hunter.
I’ll let you decide for yourself.

The only visible sign on this track was at the beginning of the track near the hunter’s stand. Choco liked the track from the very beginning and took us directly to the deer with confidence. These type of tracks work best when the hunter recognizes the characteristics of their hit and call a dog tracker to discuss the conditions right away rather than attempt a grid search. These results reflect Joshua‘s proper handling of his track. Congratulations.
