This is a hard one folks but I’ve been putting it off for months because I just couldn’t bring myself to put the video together or find the words to say. Before this year comes to a close though we need to take a moment to honor a legend and say farewell to a King.
On August 30, 2024 we unexpectedly had to say goodbye to our sweet Kingsley. He was a favorite among our volunteers and with everyone who knew him. King was featured in so much of our branding both in print and online. On this particular day he was on a local news program with me and our friend Dr. Bonilla from Passionate Paws Animal Hospital. During our time together that morning Dr. B noticed that his belly was hanging lower than it should be and that he was moving slowly even for his age and size. She asked us to bring him back to the hospital immediately following our interview and as she suspected he had a mass in his belly. This was not the outcome we were expecting that day. Our team gathered from all around the Charlotte area to meet in that hospital room. Everyone who loved him was there to say goodbye to our sweet boy. I’ve had a lot of really hard days in rescue but that day ranks at the very top. Watching his foster Dad go home without him was heartbreaking. They were best buds and Richard gave Kingsley so much love in his final months. I have to say a special thank you to Dr. B and her team for making time for us that day and for helping us say goodbye in a loving and peaceful environment. It meant so much to all of us who were there with Kingsley in his final moments.
Kingsley had a hard life before he came into rescue. He was found as a stray by one of our foster moms who took him in for the beginning of his journey. King was emaciated, covered in scars, his ears brutally cut off, heartworm positive, and unfortunately reactive to other dogs. We have always believed he was used as a bait dog of some kind which is so horrific for such a sweet, loving dog. It will never cease to

I am so happy to post this update on our sweet boy Fitz! I visited him yesterday at Top Gun and you guys won’t believe the amazing transformation!
I realize that you have not seen any video of him when he was experiencing the tremors and I’m sorry for that. It was extremely difficult and heartbreaking to watch and I felt it was best not to show him that way. Hopefully this video of him acting like himself will make you as happy this Sunday morning as I am! If his improvement continues for the rest of today it’s likely that he will be coming home tomorrow! 🎉 We are so grateful to Dr T and her entire team at Top Gun for everything they’ve done to help Fitz these last few days!
Thank you all for your prayers and support for Fitz! It means the world to us!
