2 dogs looking for new homes, located Wayland, IA

AVAILABLE🩷Betty Boop the pitty was a stray found in Wayland early last year, approximately 4 years old. She is current on shots & spayed.
She would do well with an active home and wants to be a couch potato.
She has lived with other dogs and kids. She would do best in a home with older kids 10+

PENDING🖤Skipper is a mini 11 pound AKC dachshund and will be 2 in June. Kennel trained, Current on shots & just neutered 2 weeks ago.
A little shy at first he is a love bug who wants a lap to keep warm.
He has been raised with large & small dogs and would do best with only female dogs.
He likes to choose when to be cuddly so a home with small children is not recommended.
*he has had a marking stud problem but the neutering has drastically helped so he will need kenneled when alone.

Some thoughts before summer time comes ☀️

1. We are consistently 1 month out for grooming

2. NOW is a great time to spay/neuter. Us, along with Paws & More Shelter have been posting lots of accident litters.
💛Summer is a busy time and it's hard to keep farm dogs out of the pond/water so if you will be home for spring break, schedule it then (NO baths/water for 7 days after surgery) * Kitten season is also fast approaching

3. In Iowa if you are 1 day late getting rabies done, you will not get your 3 year license. Please get it done early before the crazy summer schedules begin

4. Boarding plans * We have some parents who are on top of it and have already started scheduling for travel ball. We will not be able to do last minute boarding this summer so please schedule early

These little things often get overlooked but please update your information with us AND your vet when

~Name Change (especially those getting married)

~If your pet passes (important for the vet so they don't keep
sending out reminders)

~Spayed/Neutered (if you get your pet fixed with a different vet than your own make sure to still tell your vet ex. CR Humane Alliance)

~Updated Shots (again if you get them done with another vet or a shelter clinic, make sure US and your main vet get your paperwork)

~Heat! If your girl is in heat for grooming or boarding that is OKAY with us as our dogs do not intermingle. We will still take them but please let us know.

Christmas and New Years boarding is almost full

Look ahead for Spring Break Plans. With WACO and Washington being the same week we are already half way filled * March 14th - 23rd

We have a client that is looking to rehome 2 of her dogs. They are located with her and each will need a dog savvy home.

Blue is a 6ish year old brindle not fixed female. They are working on updating her shots. She will start fights with other females but seems to do well with males.
Blue is potty/house trained and is used to a fenced in yard. She IS heartworm POSITIVE. Her new home would need to look into getting her treated as this takes months of treatment and is pricey.

Mushu is a VERY large intact german shepherd that is 2 years old. He will chase cars and needs to go to a home with no other male dogs or kids.
** He does have a single bite history with a child**
They say he is house & kennel trained and would need a fenced yard. They are working on updating his vaccines.

Don't forget your vet also has plans and vacations scheduled around the holidays, so if your furry friend has shots due around these busy times please remember to schedule early.

All vet clinics have a 3 year rabies (IF your pet is not late on having them updated) * Winfield does a 2 year

Depending on your vet clinic 3 year distemper may also be an option if your pet is not late on having them updated.

* Wayland Vet along with Town & Country Vet in Washington both do 3 year distempers

~Vaccines like Lyme, Bordetella and Lepto are only good for 1 year and do not have a 3 year option.

Healthy Paws Vet Care is now at the former Henry County Vet Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, IA (Dr. Howie's) across from the Press Box
Dr. Ruth Schinstock took over Sept. 1st, 2023 and is VERY active in spaying/neutering and can typically get you in the same week you call.
NOW is the time to fix your kitties if you don't want spring time litters and she always has some cats and dogs she is adopting out if you are looking for a new furry friend 🙂
She is also the Henry County pound so if you are missing a pet this is a GREAT place to check.

Starting January 1st our grooming prices will be slightly increasing

$30 Basic * bath, nails, brushing, ear cleaning

$40 Upkeep * same as basic with an included face/feet/sanitary clipping

$50 Full Cut * same as upkeep but the full body/legs is included in the cut

It has been 5 years since we opened here at our new building! In fall of 2019 we moved in with 280 clients and now 5 years later we are at 2,100 human clients and pets are at 3,250.

We stay booked out 2 - 4 weeks on grooming (depending on time of year) and our boarding is no different. We want to thank everyone for supporting us and helping us be what we are today :D

Most people don't get to see all of the staff who work here at AGB so we wanted to introduce everyone.

Ashley Sutton - Owner\Groomer\Kennel Manager

Ashley always knew she wanted to have a life which included animals. After graduating from WACO High School (Wayland, IA) in 2012, she attending Iowa State University and received a Bachelors Degree in Animal Science. She specialized in companion animals and genetics. In May 2016, Ashley opened Ashley's Grooming which was located 1 mile S of Wayland in a small portable building.

​In 2019, Ashley's Grooming moved into a newly built facility specifically designed for Grooming & Boarding after the huge amount of requests for the boarding side. Ashley and her father, Jason Sutton - spent years touring numerous facilities around Iowa and Missouri, to make certain the building was perfect for the growing business and able to handle all the needs for Grooming and Boarding in SE Iowa.

Jason Sutton - Kennel Manager\Maintenance\Office Manager

Jason is Ashley's dad and is at the building often for mowing, maintenance, tours and scheduling. ​He grew up in Washington, IA and graduated from Williamsburg, IA. Jason served 10 years in the Air Force and in 2020 retired from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Chelsey Smith - Kennel Manager\Grooming Assistant\Secretary

Chelsey is from Columbus Junction and has been with Ashley's Grooming & Boarding since February 2023. She is an Iowa State University graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science. Chelsey is a great asset to AGB and is very comfortable around animals and she will often be the one answering the phone. She had a little corgi named Jasper and her favorite part of the job is 'interacting with a variety of dog & cat personalities and breeds.'

Ella Huisenga - Kennel Attendant\Grooming assistant

Ella is from Wayland and has been with Ashley's Grooming & Boarding since 2020. She is currently a senior at WACO High School and has 2 dogs, Buddy & Annie. Ella's favorite part of being at Ashley's is 'taking care of the boarding dogs & cats and seeing their personalities come out.'
Ella was WACO's 2024 Homecoming Queen.

Levi Bachman - Kennel Attendant\Maintenance

Levi is from Wayland and has been with Ashley's Grooming & Boarding since 2022. He is currently a Junior at WACO High School and has multiple dogs including his newest chocolate lab Journey. Levi's favorite part of being at Ashley's is 'when new dogs warm up to him.'

Morgan Meyer - Kennel Attendant\Grooming Assistant

Morgan is from Wayland and is the newest team member of Ashley's Grooming & Boarding in 2024. She is currently a Junior at Waco High School and has a golden retriever named Bella. Morgan's favorite part of being at Ashley's is 'meeting people and their dogs, as well as different dog breeds.'

​​Tyler & Taylor Sutton - Kennel Attendant\Grooming\Maintenance

Tyler & Taylor are Ashley's brothers and graduated from Waco in 2022. Both are students at ISU. Tyler is majoring in Data Analytics/Business Management and Taylor is going for Industrial Engineering.

Mascot - Onkey aka 'Squishy'.

Squishy is from Wayland and has been with AGB since 2020. He is a mini donkey at 33" and lots of personality. He loves kids, anyone who'll feed him and his special friend 'Miss Squishy'

Can you believe next month is already Thanksgiving?!!

If you are wanting a holiday groom for November or Christmas please schedule now as they are getting filled up.

**WE have NO grooming open till November

Multiple dog households *** if you are wanting 2+ dogs groomed on the same day OR boarded together you must book early as these are limted spots and we can't just "squeeze you in"

We want everyone to look their best these holiday seasons and booking early can just be another thing checked off your list.

🩵If you have kids coming home for the holidays or other extended family, please make sure all the pets gathering together get along beforehand! We always get calls asking if we have room because a fight broke out and we typically don't have room to accommodate this.
