Come home to find that the economy size Tide w/Downey fell off the washing machine and burst open. About a 1/4 inch deep in the entire laundry room as well as under the washer and dryer. It gets better. Of all dogs, Bindi, who can’t even walk on a clear floor, decided to investigate. She was down in the middle of it rolling, unable to get to her feet and completely covered in blue Tide😳

I always wash my hands and sanitize them between every pet sitting stop. This is for the protection of myself, my families I pet sit for, and ultimately so I don’t spread anything from home to home. This new respiratory illness attacking dogs is no joke. I’d avoid anywhere your dog would have face to face contact with another dog until they figure out something that will work to treat this because antibiotics aren’t working. This apparently starts with a cough, but unlike kennel cough, it’s a wet cough which quickly progresses. Call your vet immediately.

Another option is for owners to hire a house sitter, Needle said. “Or hire a dog walker,” he added. “It might not be perfect, but it’s better than nothing. Also, you might want to consider having Thanksgiving at home.”

Ultimately, your dog might be happier at home with a house sitter or a dog walker stopping by multiple times during the day than going to a kennel, Jandrey said.

“It’s best to leave them in their own environment,” he added.

Well, Jess and I rescued Grumpy out of the storm drain. He continued to become more friendly and wanted more human interactions. Unfortunately he wasn’t feeling well this week and his platelets were high and his heart was enlarged. Thanks to Chris for taking him to the vet and making the best decision for him😔

In April 2021, AHS started its partnership with Best Friends Animal Society to increase lifesaving, especially for cats. We did this by building a spay/neuter clinic for stray/feral cats, through staff training, and with the help of our community. By the end of 2021 we had our highest save rate ever at 86%, an increase of 23%. In 2022, we officially became a no-kill shelter with a save rate of 94%, and we are holding steady at that rate for 2023.

While not every animal is able to be saved, primarily due to untreatable medical conditions, we now have the tools to save as many as possible. We are proud to serve our community as a no-kill shelter, treating every animal as an individual and doing all we can to provide a positive outcome.

We thank Best Friends for their support over the past 2.5 years, and we are eternally grateful for the support of our community for the past 50! Be sure to stop in to the adoption center to see our new plaque!
