I was lucky enough to win the lottery to hike The Wave on only my second try! It was absolutely amazing. The dogs had a blast, I took a million pictures and I hope to go back again someday to explore the desert out there even more.

Have you heard of the 10 essentials? If you’re a hiker, I hope you have! But what should you bring for your dog? I made a list below of the things I always make sure to bring out on hikes for my pups 🐾

↠ Food: I always have lots of treats in my f***y pack for them for training and energy boosts. High protein foods, such as or are always a great choice.

↠ Water: You always always always want to make sure you have enough water for your dogs (and yourself!). Also, make sure to bring a bowl or make sure they can drink out of a hose/bottle.

↠ Booties: I recommend dogbooties.com since they are lightweight and you buy them individually. I always make sure to bring them with me. It could get too hot in the desert, too cold in the snow, or there could be pokey plants and sharp rocks. If the dogs can’t protect their feet, you will have to carry them out (see #6).

↠ First Aid Kit: They do make first aid kits specifically for dogs which I highly recommend, but you can also use many of the items in a human kit.

↠ Insulation: A a waterproof/windproof jacket just in case the weather turns. I recommend

↠ Emergency Harness: A dog carrying harness made specifically for emergencies. Since I’m from NH, I recommend Pack-A-Paw, though I know many people like the Airlift harness by

↠ Leash: Always carry a leash, even if your dog will be hiking off leash, and follow leash laws.

↠ P**p bags: All the p**p bags.

↠ Name Tag: A tag with your dog’s emergency contact info is always a great idea!

Bonus Gear: I use a harness that has a handle for easy lifting and lowering, as well as a back clip for their leashes. makes fantastic gear and I use their sidekick F***y pack on every adventure. makes the best adventure bandanas! Candy wore one on every hike we did last year!

We’ve been hiking around quite a bit where we’re living! There’s so much to explore. Last week we took a long walk out to some hoodoos - it was a wet and muddy hike but we all had a lot of fun.

A bunch of happy dogs on a group hike the other day 🐾

One of my favorite things about where I’m living is not only my backyard being full of hiking trails, but they’re -quiet-. I took these 4 out on a hike Saturday and didn’t see anyone the entire time. It gives them the opportunity to run around off leash with a bit more freedom while really working on recall and sticking close. And seeing dogs be dogs like that makes me Happy.

(These 4 do have a pretty good understanding of recall, if they didn’t I wouldn’t let them off leash. You can see Miss Candy is still dragging a long line)

Most of you know already, but for those of you that don’t - I’m moving to Utah!

It’ll only be for a few months, but I’m excited for this next adventure. I’ll be back in NH in spring and will continue offering hikes then 🐾

In the meantime, enjoy the snow for me 😜

So I know many of you are probably off to trick or treat tonight, or you're getting ready for the barrage of cute kids to come knocking on your door. But, while we're busy having fun this evening lets remember some simple things for our dogs -

1. Management is key. If you're going to have lots of people coming to the door, keep a gate or pen set up so your dog can't barge through the door in excitement or behave in a way that may not be welcome. Some dogs don't take to visitors at the door well and its best to have them not set up for failure by giving them a buffer. Even for those who can't or don't have a gate, have your dog dragging a leash so you can move him quickly away if you need to or step on it should he decide he wants to go out too.

2. If your dog truly hates people coming to the door or may get too anxious/excited, there is nothing wrong with creating a safe space in a separate area of the house where you can have white noise going and give him something wonderful to chew on stay busy. You can also then sit by the door and be ahead of the game so no one has to ring the doorbell multiple times. It's a perfect opportunity for you to eat all your favorite candy too before giving any away.

3. Take your dog out right before the activity and then wait until after the activity to take him out again. Don't take him out when he may be surprised by a scary silhouette or something spooky. Make sure he’s wearing appropriate identification!

4. Bringing your dog with you trick or treating can go badly quickly, Only bring your dog if you feel he is going to tolerate all the noise excitement and chaos well. Always have an extra adult with you so they can take the dog home or bring him to a safe spot (crate in the car with a chew ready) should he get overwhelmed or scared.

5. Chocolate is my favorite food, but it is not good for dogs. In all the excitement please make sure you watch where you put the candy or where it is left out. keep it out of your pets reach. If you aren't sure where to put it, send it to my house.

6. Dressing pets up is fun, but it shouldnt be a requirement for a dog to love it. If your dog is not enjoying all the handling or dress up, stop. Its not worth having an incident just to try to get a cute picture. Your dog will thank you!

Happy Howloween everyone!!!

Have a new puppy in the house that could use some training trips? An older dog that loves car rides but can’t hike like they used to? Or a reactive pup that likes to bark at things outside the car? Let me take them on a field trip!

I decided to add Field Trips to my services because there are dogs that would benefit from a trip away from the house but can’t hike for an hour+ at a time (or wouldn’t want to). These trips will give puppies the chance to socialize, older dogs the chance to go on an adventure and every dog in between the chance to get out of the house and be mentally stimulated.

Each field trip is planned ahead of time for you and your pups needs/wants and can vary each time. They last 45-60 minutes depending on the activity and the distance traveled.

Field trip activities include but are not limited to:

A quick sniffy trail walk
Indoor establishment visit
Parking lot visit (reactivity training)
A car ride (probably to see some cows!)
Field visit (recall training, fetch)

If this is something you’d like to learn more about, discuss further, or book just let me know! I’m really excited to be offering this service!
