Happy Monday! This week we have had several kitties go home, a few on deposit, and a few new ones! Gypsy, Jinzo, Snickers, George, and Zachary are on deposit, Boann and Goober went home! We have several kittens from different litters available, including a few from the st.patty’s day, ninja turtles, musical, and planetary litters! Come see these adorable munchkins to find your purrfect match!

We have a bonded pair of sweet kitties, Bandit and Snuggles. Their owner passed away and they came to us for a safe place to live until they find their forever home. They must be adopted together as they are very bonded to one another.

A reminder of our new open hours coming soon (7/22), but for now we have our normal open hours - Thursday and Friday 12-3:30 and Saturday 10-1! Come down and meet our adoptable kitties, and maybe you’ll find your new best friend!

Exciting news! We have MORE open hours to share with you! Our first week of our additional open hours will be 7/22, and the extra hours are: TUESDAYS and WEDNESDAYS from 4-7pm! We will be open to facilitate adoptions, donations, and allow for visitors to come meet the kitties in the shelter during these times, just like our usual open hours on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Hopefully (fingers crossed) this will help us get more kitties adopted! Please share to get the word out!

We have recently had a few incidences of harassment or abuse towards our staff and volunteers, and wanted to remind everyone that we do not, and should not, tolerate such behavior. I will not go into specifics about the incidences, but they were unsavory and caused the targets to be very uncomfortable and upset. This is never okay, and should not be expected to be tolerated.

We want to remind all visitors and potential adopters that we have rules to follow. Some of our rooms are off-limits for a reason, mostly for the safety of the cats and the visitors, as well as the staff members, and it is a liability if these rules are not followed. Not following these rules could cause the CCC to be in violation of our license, and may cause trouble for us to operate.

It is never okay to abuse any of our staff or volunteers because you do not agree with our policies or rules. Please direct any concerns to [email protected] and we will try our best to address them with the appropriate parties.

Thank you to those who have supported us kindly over the last 25 years, and here’s to many more years helping cats in our community!

Dr. Rachel Geller's tips for June

How Your Cat Really Recognizes You: It’s More Than Just Your Face

1) Cats primarily recognize their owners through scent rather than facial recognition. They have a keen sense of smell, which they use to identify familiar individuals. If your personal scent changes, your cat may become confused. A few ways your scent may change includes chemotherapy, pregnancy, illness/disease and some medications.

2) Cats also respond to their owner's voice and can differentiate it from others. Cats remember the unique pitch, timbre, and volume of their owner’s voice.

3) While cats do not rely heavily on visual cues, they can recognize a person's general size and shape. Your cat recognizes your unique physical form (size and shape) — and how it differs from not only other household members but strangers.

4) Cats differentiate their owners from others and are often reserved until they get to know someone and feel that this person is not a threat. Your entire package — the sound of your voice, the scent of your body, and your size, shape and mannerisms — helps your cat to decide if the response is “Yay! My person has returned!” or “Who is this imposter? Time to hide!”

A huge THANK YOU to Second Chance Animal Services for sharing an enormous donation they received with us and other local shelters. We can’t say how much this helps us care for our cats in our care now. and for those to come! Also thank you immensely to those who came out to pick up/transport/unload/put away all these amazing donations, especially on a day like today! You are all amazing and so appreciated.

Hope you’re all able to beat the heat this week and the rest of the summer! Please see these great tips and warnings from Tufts Veterinary Hospital, and keep your pets safe!

HEATSTROKE IS PREVENTABLE‼️
Dogs and cats are not able to regulate their body temperature the same way humans do, making them more susceptible to heatstroke.

With today being almost 100°F, we recommend SKIPPING WALKS and only bringing your pets out for brief bathroom breaks.

Keep pets inside with fans/AC and access to fresh water. Also keep in mind the temperature of the pavement in your pets’ paws.

If you notice any signs of heatstroke or you are ever concerned, please call/bring your pet to TVETS!

Happy Monday! Hope everyone is trying to stay cool today and tomorrow; thankfully our kitties are! We had Olga, CeCe, and several kittens go home, and we have Sizzle & Sparkie on deposit together, and Owen & Odessa on deposit together! We will also have thirteen more kitties getting fixed later this week, although some are part of our Spay A Mom program so they will not be available for adoption, but their kittens will be!

We also wanted to thank those of you who reached out to us and signed up to be fosters! We can still use more available homes, but you helped us save so many families already, and gave them a safe comfortable place to spend the next few weeks or months.

One kitten we have available is the magnificent Theodore, and he is a fun-loving, energetic wild man! He needs to be adopted with another kitten or have a playful friend at his forever home to help him burn off his energy, as he is crazy. He is the sweetest little guy but could and would easily get himself into trouble if he doesn’t have a stimulating, active friend with whom he can play. We also have a pair of adorable sisters, all black, that are ready to find their forever homes as well, Lily and Phoebe that would love to be adopted together as well!

We also have beautiful KC available now, she is a super sweet girl that loves attention and play, but doesn’t seem to be super fond of other cats that we have seen in the shelter. With a slow introduction she may be fine, but we do not know for sure. She is a beautiful petite house panther that would love a nice comfy home to call her own!

Please visit our wonderful kitties during open hours on Thursdays and Fridays from 12-3:30 and Saturdays from 10-1!

Drowning in kittens! Sounds like a fun thing but…. It is not. Even if they’re as cute as these guys are, it is not. This year has been a very tough kitten season already, and it isn’t even summer yet! We get calls and messages each day about kittens and moms, and we still need more fosters. If you have ever wanted to be a foster, now is the time to try it out!

The time commitment varies, from a week or two to a few months, depending on your availability, comfort, and choice of types of fosters. We supply all the food, beds, towels, etc. you may need on hand, you just give them a comfy place to stay and grow!

These kittens are not yet available for adoption, they are still spicy! 🌶️

Please send us a message or fill out a foster application here:
https://thecommunitycatconnection.org/you-can-help
And send the application back as scans or photos to messenger or to [email protected] . Thank you in advance, and please consider joining us!

Happy Monday, sorry for the late update! We have several kittens on deposit and a few have gone home this past week. Also excitingly, Milo and Mingus are on deposit!

This week we only have one new kitty to share with you - George! He came to us as a very scared boy in our TNR program and spent a little while in a foster home, which has gotten him to be friendly and sociable. He is still unsure about some things but has come around beautifully, and loves to be brushed and loves to try to play with the other cats in the foster home! He would do well with another cat friend that can help him become a well-rounded house cat.

We have not received any interest in Gracie, Button and Boo, or Cheeky-puff and Flip, and I wanted to share their stories again as a spotlight. Gracie came to us as a surrender by concerned caretakers, as she was a barn cat and was getting beaten up by other local cats in the area. She spent some time getting more friendly in their home but they were unable to keep her long term and brought her to us. She is a little unpredictable and doesn’t love other cats, so she would do best as an only cat in an experienced home. Cheeky-puff and Flip have been with us since they were kittens, and are now over a year old! They have been in foster for quite a long time, and would love to have a forever home of their own. Button and Boo are also growing up with us, and were in foster but are now at the shelter. They need to be adopted by a home that can give them time to adjust and to blossom into their best potential!

Please let us know if any of these kitties seem to be a good fit for you, and come visit them during open hours each week on Thursday and Friday from 12-3:30 and Saturday from 10-1! * Also, we do have the availability to be open for a special open hours time, if there is a demand, THIS Wednesday night for a few hours, time TBD. Please let us know if this would be beneficial for anyone that may be unable to make it in for our regular open hours *

We are in need of KMR for some litters of foster kittens! If you have any unexpired and unopened cans of KMR and can donate them, we would be very happy to share them with our fosters! Also if you are able to donate kitten fancy feast wet food, we have lots of kittens just starting to eat solid food and they eat a LOT !

Pictured is a spicy foster litter that is not eating KMR but lots of wet food! They are not ready for adoption yet but will be when they’re friendly.
