3 year old warmblood/draft cross, Quigley is coming along really well and getting ready to head home soon! Proof that less is more, this boy has cantered under saddle only a few times in this video and is carrying himself pretty well! He understands the transition, stays on the line and maintains the pace, and that is all he needs right now! Drilling young horses won’t get us anywhere, and this boy is happy, willing and will be ready for more next year!

This girl had a great session leading with @sera_mendoza this morning before the cold and wind! Luckily I got in 4 horses myself before teaching class, cause that wind is cold today! I loved all the suggestions, but I’m liking the name, Zenobia (after the warrior queen who fought against Roman rule) for this girl, and we can call her Zen 😊 Seems to fit!

Elsa, @charstorm and I had SO much fun playing in the Jumpers at @fourwindsequestrian today! Everyone had great rounds! Az and I finished Reserve Champion in our division, even winning the stakes class! I think he’d make a really nice Jumper! And, Elsa and Ziva also finished Reserve Champion! Unfortunately, they would have finished overall champion and won the stakes class, if I didn’t tell Elsa to make a wrong turn 🤦♀️ Still, they were on fire today and it was incredibly fun watching them kill it!

The new Mustang mares have been making great progress and they need names! The black mare is a tad smaller and way less ‘people fear’. Anyone who has heard me talk about training horses has heard me mention the two main personality types, and this girl is pretty classic type 2 (more willing to trust people, but likely will have more situational anxiety). And, the bay mare is showing more signs of classic type 1 (will take more time to trust people, but pretty confident otherwise). Always fun to learn about each new horse! I haven’t even begun to think of names yet, but here are some female mythology names I haven’t used yet: Antigone, Bradamante, Marphisa, Erytheia, Zenobia, Lilith, Hecate, Ariadne, Psyche…

Az and I had a much better day today, and really had some things click! I love riding with Buck, and try to whenever I get the chance, because his exercises are so challenging but also so intuitive when you get it right. Now, I get to bring it all home to my students and other horses!
