We always enjoy observing the beautiful combinations people make when they come out to pick produce and flowers! Some people come just for the produce and buy just enough to try it, others pick enough for multiple meals throughout the week and a bouquet to adorn the table and others never even look at the produce, they come only for flowers. They slowly walk to find the flowers that are perfect for them to make a bouquet. I love seeing the colors, the smiles and the sheer pride that shines when people look at the beautiful creation they made! It makes me smile the whole day!

So, we’re hearing about this parasite called cyclospora spreading throughout several states, NC included, with the likely source being raw fruits & vegetables. US. Current recommendations (especially in states with rising case numbers) are to avoid raw veggies purchased from grocery stores and any bagged salads (although that advice may change).

You have options to AVOID this! 1. Grow your own naturally, organically grown produce at home! 2. Join a TRUSTED community garden to grow your food! 3. Shop at a TRUSTED farmers market! 4. (My favorite!) reserve an available spot to come here and pick your own produce and herbs! You support a small family farm that grows naturally, you receive local food without worrying about pesticides, you see where the food is grown and choose what you pick (unlike a csa that chooses for you), you get to spend time in the fresh air, you can enjoy the experience of being a farmer, even if just for an hour, you support your community and lessen the carbon footprint because food isn’t shipped in, you get the absolutely freshest food possible because YOU JUST PICKED IT!

We have opened several U-Pick timeslots to come and enjoy choosing your vegetables, herbs and flowers! We currently have sweet bell, hot banana and jalapeño peppers, cherry (won third place out of over 50 different tomatoes at the Matthews Farmers Market!), paste, and slicing tomatoes, pickling (which can also be smaller slicing) cucumbers, Japanese and standard eggplant, basil, thyme, sage, oregano, hydrangeas, sunflowers, zinnias, Celosia, marigold, lisianthus and mountain mint. We were SO happy to have our herbal salves receive such a positive response this past Saturday at the market! I never thought we would sell out in under an hour (even though I brought a very small amount)! I hope all who purchased one is thoroughly enjoying how smooth, moisturized and soothing their face, hands and body feel! We’ll have some more to offer this coming weekend, in small amounts as I make small batches. We will also be offering our comfrey and basil salve in the coming weeks.

WORKSHARE OPPORTUNITY! If you’ve done our workshare, you know the details…if not, here’s the info: you work 1 hour a week (mainly weeding and mulching), you then get to pick $15 worth of vegetables and flowers for yourself (or more if you’d like and we’ll just apply the $15 to your total). Workshare is in the evening after normal work hours, for adults only and once a week. I know it’s hot and it may be the last thing on your mind, BUT… we are offering our workshare to the community! If you enjoy gardening, want to learn how an urban farm operates, your garden isn’t growing as you planned, or you just want to help out and be around like minded individuals, this may be for you! We are compiling a small group of adults to come out once a week (in the evening after work hours when it’s a bit cooler!). You give me an hour of working (weeding, mulching, etc), you get to pick $15 of free veggies (you can pick more… the first $15 will be free🙂)! Interested? Text or DM me to add your name to the list.
