Missing seeing our neighborhood peacock! This Wesley Chapel construction has forced our whole street to be stuck in our houses and not be able to go for walks! We can barely get the mail as it’s like a highway now! We don’t have sidewalks or even a shoulder on the road and when over 200 cars an hour are flying (at speeds above 60mph) in a 35mph zone, we as neighbors choose NOT to risk our lives! So much for this being done by September 1st!

Not a great picture, but this is what a tadpole looks like next to a dragonfly naiad. Apparently, when the pond is considered a perfect ecosystem with highly oxygenated water, dragonflies lay their eggs. However, I discovered, those dragonfly babies ATE our tadpoles! I know it’s nature, but I wish they could’ve live in harmony and I could enjoy both! Now, I’m left with a pond and no wildlife. 😞

For those of you who have ordered or bought our edible flower packs at the market, you’ll see a change coming for next season! As we solidify our plans for next year’s offerings, we are happy to announce we plan to expand our edible flower offerings next season! So here’s a funny and frustrating story…. I took pictures of the entire process of incorporating our petalfetti into my sourdough biscuits. The ENTIRE process, from the petals being chopped, pressed into the dough, placed in the cast iron pan, being baked perfectly (yes, I will boast, perfectly!), to a small pat of butter (UAV) beautifully melting on the sweetly plated finished biscuit with brightly colored violas and petalfetti sprinkled on the plate to compliment it. Well… my phone has “decided” the photos aren’t available now. I dread the day AI starts to take over…. Oh wait, we’re already there!!! Until my photos become available to view 🤷‍♀️🤔, we will be offering petalfetti on an order by order basis. DM or text me to order some!

Our newest farm dog and family member. His head is so big, it was hard to fit his face in the frame. He’s a good family protector, chicken watcher and goofy boy. The girls (one in particular) aren’t quite ready to accept him, but we believe in commiting to a dog for their entire life. This big guy will not have to ever worry or wonder again. Adopt a shelter dog or cat, they deserve a chance at a loving and secure life. Stop supporting breeders, puppy mills, people trying to make a buck off of selling puppies while thousands are euthanized, and please, please, please, have your pets spayed or neutered (if you can’t afford even the low cost clinics, then you can’t afford to care for your pet). It’s saves lives!

The last two weeks have been hard on our family (well actually the last few months, but these last two weeks have been the hardest!) Between the house flood, the mitigation, the waiting for something to begin, to having to pause for Eric’s surgery and time for recovery to moving out of our house (and living in an RV in the driveway) for the wood floors to be installed, to the wood floors needing to be fixed because installation was poorly done (which unfortunately continues!) to our dryer breaking and not being able to hang clothes on the line because of ALL THE RAIN, etc! We are happy to announce… even with all this craziness with our family STILL going on, we NEED some normalcy and familiarity and WILL be at the market tomorrow, even if it’s just one of us. Our bounty is light, but we want to bless all we can with sone freshly grown local flowers to brighten your tables! This will help give us hope for being able to place fresh flowers on a table in our house sometime soon (fingers crossed and say some prayers!).

Eric and I have been blessed with a wonderful urban farm that we have amended and built up and God has nourished and provided rich soil. We are thinking about sharing some of this great growing space to a few people who don’t have a space of their own, but want to grow their own food! This is what we’re thinking (super beginning stages, so changes will occur!): We provide you with a rich, no till microbe filled, loose soil garden space of approximately 3ft by 12ft. The soil will be fertilized using organic measures such as fish fertilizer. We will start and supply you with your choice of seedlings (from what we offer. Examples: cherry and slicing tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet and hot peppers, etc), we will water your garden space for you and help with questions should you have any. You plant and maintain your garden space, harvest and keep all the food you produce. We will also offer monthly classes for food preservation (canning, freezing meal components, etc.). You have the experience of farming on an urban farm only 8 miles from Matthews, help with questions to sharpen your farming/gardening/growing skills, produce for you, your family and friends that YOU proudly grew and the opportunity to learn how to preserve your bounty for delicious and nutrient dense meals during the winter! You may be wondering what the cost of something like this may be…. Well, it would be about $25/week. That’s cheaper than most traditional CSA’s and you choose what food you grow, learn how to be more self sustainable, have a farmer (me!) available for questions, have the option to learn how to preserve food and feel pride that you grew it! Let me know if this is something you would be interested in! We are currently looking to see the interest level so we can determine how much space to set aside and create a plan to help everyone interested be super successful!
