One Health is the belief and subsequent practice that all health on the planet—human, environmental, and animal—is inextricably linked and should be treated as such. 🌎

This reflects both our physical and mental health. Positive and attentive relationships with pets boost our overall happiness. And at the same time, it's crucial to be mindful of our pets' health—for their sake and for ours, as pets can carry communicable diseases such as ringworm and rabies.

Chronic hepatitis in animals can be hard for pet parents to notice and to understand. This disease can remain undetected for long periods of time, as the early-stage symptoms often mimic the side effects of many other disorders.

Pets and humans alike use kidneys to filter waste and other things we don't need from our bodies! 🗑️

When there's an issue causing your pets' kidneys to filter these elements insufficiently, the results can affect their overall wellbeing. 🐈

Chronic renal disease, or chronic kidney disease, might take pet parents a long time to see the symptoms — partially because the effects build slowly over time, and partially because our pets are experts at masking pain and discomfort.

If you notice your pet is eating less than they used to and losing weight, or drinking more water and urinating more than normal, you may want to schedule an appointment with Endeavour for a comprehensive exam.

Is your pet using the restroom more often than they used to? Are they going where they shouldn't? Urinary incontinence is common in older pets and often treatable.

Important update on HPAI in our community

*** POULTRY DISEASE ALERT ***

The Clemson Veterinary Diagnostic Center diagnosed a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a bird from a backyard poultry flock in Richland County.

This is the fourth HPAI case identified in South Carolina since November 2022, and all were backyard flocks. 2 flocks had interactions with vultures and the other 2 flocks let their pet waterfowl have access to ponds. The highest risk for all flocks being exposed to HPAI around the home or farm is from contact with local infected wild waterfowl and other infected wild birds and mammals (like foxes and raccoons).

Total HPAI cases since Feb, 2022:
Commercial Cases = 655
Backyard / Other Cases = 492
Total Confirmed Flocks = 1,147
Total birds effected = 92.8 Million

SC shows and exhibitions -- at this time, SC poultry shows and exhibitions can continue -- however, it is highly recommended that no waterfowl (pet ducks and geese) be allowed at shows/exhibitions. This is because pet ducks and geese can get infected with the HPAI virus at home and show no signs -- then bring the virus to the show. It is recommended that no waterfowl be sold at auction, flea markets, swaps and small sales -- for the same reason.
