Pushing myself out of my comfort zone is probably my number one difficulty. I’be chosen to change my whole game, mentality and truly push myself even if I fail. I wasn’t born into this, but I’m learning to better myself everyday because this is the life I want to live. I want to be successful in the training world, even if I have to ride horses all day every day until my legs go numb and start bleeding from being in the saddle all day. I’m grateful for all the support I have to push me to keep going.

A few things you need to know about barrel racing:

1: Fastest way from Point A to Point B is a straight line.

2. Losing forward motion costs you a ton of time.

3. I see horses all the time “slinging” their hind ends out… this does not promote speed or soundness (sore backs, etc.) For a horse to be fast, strong and SOUND, they should use themselves, use their core, and use STRENGTH, not momentum through the turn. Think of “running AROUND” the barrel, not feeling like their hind end might pass you by. 🍑💨

4. A horse is fastest typically running… not turning. So the more actual “turn” that’s in your turn, will generally slow you down. ⏰⏰⏰

5. Because a horse naturally carries their weight on their front end, it is work to teach them to carry themselves. It’s important not that they stay “behind” the bridle, but learn to move through the bridle, this would stop ALOT of that head shaking and pulling you see.

It’s literally physics.

Quit looking for the easy way out.

There are no shortcuts.

There is no particular trick or drill.

Horsemanship, persistence, knowledge, trial and error, finding feel, thinking outside the box, never giving up… These are the things that will take you to the next level.
