🐾☀️ Hot Pavement Alert! ☀️🐾

As the temperatures rise, it's crucial to remember that hot pavement can be dangerous for our furry friends. 🐶🔥 Did you know that on a warm day, the pavement can get significantly hotter than the air temperature? Here's a quick breakdown:

- 🌡️ Air Temp: 77°F / Pavement Temp: 125°F
- 🌡️ Air Temp: 86°F / Pavement Temp: 135°F
- 🌡️ Air Temp: 87°F / Pavement Temp: 143°F

At 125°F, skin destruction can occur in just 60 seconds! Ouch! 😱

Tips to Keep Your Pup Safe:
1. Walk Early or Late: Stick to early morning or late evening walks when the ground is cooler.
2. Test the Pavement: Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your dog!
3. Paw Protection: Consider dog booties to protect those precious paws.
4. Stay on Grass: Opt for grassy or shaded areas whenever possible.

Keep those paws safe and enjoy the summer responsibly! 🐾❤️

Richlands first doggy daycare! If you’ve thought about trying one but didn’t wanna make the long drive to the other great facilities the Tri has, this is the place for you! I toured the building & met the owner, & I can definitely say this is gonna be amazing spot for pups to come.
Another perk with this being in Richland, I can offer transportation services almost daily for your pups😍 availability will be first come first serve to current clients, but I can create a waiting list for others if need be!

If you know me personally, you’ll have already seen that sweet Eve passed away suddenly this past Thursday night. She would’ve been 5 next month, so this was especially unexpected. Eve was extra special because she was the first dog I ever let stay in my home, as she was only 12 weeks old when I first watched her. She quickly fell in love with my dog & a couple years later fell in love with my second dog. She was more than just a “client”, she became part of their pack & would come just for playdates sometimes.
When I say I love your dogs like my own, I truly mean that. This is the 4th dog, whom I watched for years & was one of my favorites, to have passed away in the last year. My heart is hurting & this has all just made me want to spend as much time as possible with my own fur babies. Hence my stepping back some in the area of work, to allow me the time to do that, plus now they’re missing their friend too. So please hug your own pets tight & make them a priority, you never know how much time you’ll have left with them💜

2024 is for the dogs…my dogs💜 *long post warning, skip to end for main info*
Often times over the last year or two, they’ve gotten the short end of the stick most days. Many know that I still live with my mom, but she works two jobs, so when I’m also full with jobs that doesn’t leave much time for one of us to be at home for any length of time. I intended to find a better balance last year & failed, so that is top priority this year. It’s not fair to my own pups to never get walks or playtime because I’m gone so much, yet I always come home smelling like other animals. So that being said, I will be focusing on my existing clients this year. New clients will be rare, if at all, & no new jobs in Kennewick or Pasco will be taken. And while most probably didn’t even know this, I will also only be taking 1-2 jobs at a time this year, not 3-4. So this year will really be about “first come first serve”. Then a reminder, that I do take my own vacations so may not be available around all holidays or school breaks because of that. I hope everyone can understand my need to have a better balance, because your pets are treated like my own when you hire me, so I need to prioritize my actual pups waiting at home for me. I haven’t forgotten about trying to hire an employee either, but it’s been a much easier concept to talk about than to make happen so still in the works. Thanks everyone😊

Please watch for these symptoms in your pets & don’t assume it’s just kennel cough or something minor. A rescue as close as Spokane has had a recent outbreak, as well as a rescue in Oregon, both having to euthanize atleast 1 dog if not multiple.

❗️🦠Canine Atypical Respiratory Outbreak🦠❗️

At Horse Heaven Hills Pet Urgent Care and Veterinary Center, our commitment is to prioritize the safety and well-being of your pets. Given the recent emergence of a novel canine respiratory illness, we are dedicated to maintaining a heightened awareness of contagious diseases. Our ongoing focus is on providing effective treatment for your pets to ensure their continued health and safety

📌What we currently know:
🐾Outbreaks have been reported to state veterinarians in Washington, Oregon, Colorado and
California
🐾The disease has only been reported in canines.
🐾 This has been identified as a highly contagious respiratory disease

📌Symptoms to look for:
🐾 The symptoms seem to resemble a “kennel cough” (coughing, fever, lethargy, nasal and/or
ocular discharge)
🐾Symptoms of a chronic pneumonia or cough that do not resolve with antibiotics
🐾A sudden onset of any of these symptoms that progress rapidly.

📌What you can do to keep your pets safe:
🐾 Make sure that your pet is up to date on vaccinations (Da2PP and Bordetella)
🐾Keep sick pets isolated at home.
🐾Avoid dog parks and boarding facilities if possible
🐾Pre-screen and isolate any new pets that are brought into the household

📌What we are doing to keep our patients safe:
🐾We will pre-screen patients for symptoms prior to visit
🐾 We will have all patients that are at risk and displaying symptoms enter through our back
entrance to avoid any exposure to other patients
🐾We will be available to offer curbside care if needed to decrease exposure

I am behind on posting here, but if you are a current client I did reach out via text before these went into affect so everyone was prepared. Some may notice this is a larger increase than I have done in the past, but I do this now due to the rising costs of living & gas. Also in hopes of not needing to raise them again for quite some time & to potentially hire an employee next year.

-Drop-in visit/walk, $22 (West Richland)
-Drop-in visit/walk, $26
-2 visits for cats, $30 (West Richland)
-2 visits for cats, $36
-2-3 petsitting visits, $44 (West Richland)
-2-3 petsitting visits, $50
($5 for each additional petsitting visit, if availability allows)
-“Doggy Uber”, $30, within 20 miles
($1 each additional mile)

-overnight stay availability is limited & would be an additional charge based on location/animals etc. Cannot stay in homes with cats due to allergy. Available only in West Richland & Richland. (Existing clients in other cities excluded)
-homes in Kennewick, Pasco or Benton City would be $10 more than rates above. Availability is limited. (Existing clients in these cities excluded)

5 years ago today I began petsitting full time!🎉 thank you to all past & present clients for your business over the years, making this business the success that it is! As well as all my family & friends for their constant support. I wouldn’t say I’m “living the dream” quite yet, but I sure am close!💜

‼️Important Updates‼️
-after much consideration I have come to the decision that I will not be taking any new clients until September. Although that will probably extend into the fall months.
-current clients…I have almost zero availability left for June-August. So if you have yet to text me, please do ASAP & see if I happen to be available for what you need.

Please no more suggestions for hiring an employee, I have looked into it & I would only be losing money if I did. I do have a couple back up people I can offer, but their availability is also limited since this is not what they do full time. Thank you for your understanding & please share❤️

Ellie girl…thanks for hanging on as long as you did, so I could get a few more loves from you. I can only imagine the greeting you & Scout had, which is such a comforting thought, despite the heartbreak that is losing you both. After almost 7 years, hard to believe my favorites are gone. I’ll forever be thankful I got to spend as much time with them as I did. Hands down the sweetest babies ever💜

Sweet Scout…him & his sister Ellie are some of my longest “clients”, as well as the ones I’ve spent the most time with over the past 6 1/2 years. To say this loss was hard would be an understatement. I love everyones pets like my own & I try not to have favorites, but I do. These are/were 2 of them. You are so missed Scout, but don’t worry, Ellie is getting lots of love/snuggles in your absence. Love you so much sweet boy💜
