Joe and I are ecstatic that one of our litters has produced two stunning WPGs that are top ranked on both the BREED and ALL BREED STATS FOR 2024. Both are amazing hunting dogs as well.
As a Breeder, each of us makes decisions to focus our breeding on various aspects of the Standard. We know that no WPG is perfect, but we hope to maintain correct aspects and improve other aspects thru each breeding.
Our focus at Thrill of the Hunt WPGs, has always been breeding for type, soundness and size.
As hunters, we fell for the medium size of the WPGs that leads to successful hunting in varied and difficult terrain. Soundness needs no explanation, and I am happy to report that our pups have had many judges who state our griffs have exceptional SOUNDNESS. Size is easy to assess as they either measure within the standard or they don’t. Type is best confirmed by other breed experts or by comparing to Judges education documents.
Soundness comes from front to rear balance, the correct amount of bone, not two heavy and not to fine, good movement, among other aspects. Soundness is a necessity for multi-day hunt endurance.
I have had buyers, who ask questions about other breeders’ dogs. I won’t even discuss other dogs. Ask me about mine. Buyers need to educate themselves to the standard. And Buyers need to recognize that osome breeders, will tear down other’s dogs. So be smart and make your own decisions.
I also want to acknowledge that my breedings are built on other’s breeding programs. Each time we choose a stud, we are acknowledging another’s breeding. Breeders are not islands, so trashing other’s breeding is very shortsighted, as we are a small breed and every stud can possibly have attributes that the breed needs.
Buyers should look for their own proof of quality. This litter has also produced other champions as well as a therapy dog, one of whom is a glutten alert dog.
