Emergency Cat Care and Pain Management at the emergency level is possible and in many cases should be started sooner than waiting in the waiting area. It should be part of the initial triage assessment and started sooner. For cat owners in an emergency situation, this means you need to advocate for pain management even if you do not think your cat is in pain!!

Why you might be wondering? Because if you are at an emergency veterinarian hospital there is a good probability you cat is experiencing pain and fear. This raises their FAS level and could make it more difficult for the team to help your cat and it will compound the intensity of pain your cat experiences. You need to speak up and ask the triage veterinarian nurse/tech.

Example: If your cat is urinating blood for whatever reason be it bacterial or due to stones/crystals/blockage your cat is in untreated pain. And if you are going to need to be waiting several hours in a stressful, noisy waiting area you need to advocate for your cat. There are things that can be done in triage to alleviate and reduce your purrkids anxiety, stress and pain. Treating the pain does not interfere with diagnosis. ,

As we approach the weekend of noise (July 4th) take the time to prepare a safe room for your nervous feline. Remember, Fireworks are now legal in Ohio. And yes, some communities still have ordinances about them, but recently here in Berea we had an issue on Memorial Day with a violator. So, better to prepare than depend on people following their local laws.

A safe room could easily be a bedroom set up with food, water and litter box. This way you know where your purrbaby is. Even if they are hiding under the bed instead of the rafters.

Can we talk about quirky?
If you do not follow me on my personal page, I have been going through some very difficult times. April I lost my Lily-cat with ER vet bill nearly $1500.
Maple was scheduled for her cystomy total bill out the door came close to $2600. 9 bladder stones removed.
Maple had a rare allergic reaction to Revolution Plus that was a nightmare scenario with vet techs not listening to me and claiming Maple was stable when she was actual going into cytokine storm shock. Vet hospital #1 $250, Vet hospital #2 $753, personal vet $400 with me doing all the work at home to save her life.
Today's follow-up with blood tests and urine to send to Zoetis another $375.
Quirky part...after 5 years as a female cat...and all these vets...Maple is a boy!
Seriously, I cannot make this stuff up. All this time nobody looked at Miss Fluffy bottoms to verify the s*x.
