Managing a two-dog household can come with unique challenges. Here are a couple of common problems and how to address them:

1. Resource Guarding:
• Problem: One or both dogs may start guarding food, toys, or attention from you, which can lead to tension or fights.
• Solution: Feed them separately and provide individual time for each dog. Avoid giving high-value toys unless supervised, and work on desensitizing resource guarding through positive reinforcement training.
2. Sibling Rivalry or Overexcited Play:
• Problem: Dogs may compete for dominance or attention, or their play can become too rough, leading to injuries or stress.
• Solution: Establish clear boundaries and reinforce calm behavior. Train them to take breaks during play using commands like “enough” or “calm.” Monitor interactions, and step in if play escalates into aggression.

Consistent training and fair attention can help prevent these issues from escalating.

To work on leash reactivity, we like to take the dogs to public places to get them acclimated to seeing other dogs/distractions. Mr. Stewart here did a fantastic job seeing kids/dogs/bikes/ect while we were out and about. He even got to enjoy the playground himself!
