🐶🚫 Don't let heartworm disease break your dog's heart! 🚫

April is Heartworm Awareness Month and it's important to remember that heartworm disease can affect dogs all across the country, NOT JUST IN THE SOUTH! This potentially fatal illness is spread through mosquito bites and can cause heart and lung damage. Prevention is key!

We just recently diagnosed a 5yr old black lab named "Sally" who came in for her annual exam. Dr. Adams did a thorough exam and recommended yearly bloodwork. We performed an inhouse test that not only tests for heartworm, but for 3 tick borne diseases as well. Sally has always stayed in New Jersey and has never traveled. Not to worry, now that we have diagnosed Sally, we can start treating for the disease.

This weeks Feel Good Friday is a DOUBLE FEATURE; starring the new theatrical duo Theo & Rascal. In their debut visit "Theo" the 13 week old male Mini-Dachshund competes with partner "Rascal", the 15 week old Cocker Spaniel puppy for the love and affection of Dr. Meghan Knox. Who will win this contest of hearts and who will feel the bitter blow of defeat, like the biting sting of a vaccine in the backside? (*Spoiler Alert: In a twist worthy of an M. Night Shyamalan picture, they both win affection AND the tiny sting of a vaccine or two!)

Everybody loves a good under-dog story, but how about a DOG UNDER story? In this case the dog is under it's maximum recorded weight. Congrats to Mia, Mai's pet parents and Dr. Adams for creating a network of support allowing Mia to become a lean, clean-eating machine! Over the course of a year Mia maintained a loss of 5 lbs by cutting excess calories and slowing down the rate that she eats at using a slow feeder bowl. Keep up the good work and the next photo might find Mia hoisted onto Dr. Adams shoulders 🤣.

Shoot for the moon and you'll land among the cosmos, or save your money and effort and just come snuggle this "Cosmo". Once we were able to pry him away from hospital administrator Courtney, Lil' Cosmo the French Bulldog had his first puppy exam with Dr. Adams. A few vaccines, clean ears and a nail trim later our pal Cosmo was ready to blast off back home with Mom and Dad. He may not have been here exploring the milky way but he definitely enjoyed some complimentary milk bones!

Congratulations to the winner of our Dental Month Raffle Basket: Star W! Star was entered into the drawing after receiving a full dental cleaning procedure at Whiting Veterinary Clinic and just so happened to be the lucky name pulled to win. Star and Mom went home with a gift basket filled with toys, dental treats and loads of other goodies to keep Star happy and her teeth healthy.

It's not every day that we get a bonafide Greek goddess through the clinic doors, so imagine our surprise when in walked this weeks Feel-Good-Friday feature, "Hera"! In mythology Hera was known as the protectress of women but Dr. Knox took it upon herself to relieve the young pup of her duties and instead opted to scoop up and look after little Hera during her first puppy appointment with Dr. Willems.

Don't adjust your screen, you read that right: Hera was SO cute that Dr. Knox snatched her up and paraded her around the clinic and she wasn't even her patient 🤣. When a young animal causes that much of a stir it's bound to get the attention of the in-house and Hera wasn't bothered by all the attention AT ALL. Once Dr. Knox was able to give up Hera she was given a clean bill of health by Dr. Willems and sent on her way home with Dad.

Two things will get Hospital Administrator Courtney on her feet in running in a flash: Life and death emergencies and English Bulldog puppies. Thankfully for WVC when technicians saw Courtney sprinting through the treatment area it wasn't an actual fire, just lil' "Poppy" here. Poppy is a 9 week old bundle of wrinkles masquerading as an English Bulldog and apparently the epitome of what a "Feel Good Friday" is meant to evoke. WVC's was on hand to capture this monumental dopamine dump. It's a good thing WVC doesn't have a back exit or we may never have seen Courtney or Poppy again!

Admit it, you're just as invested in seeing more of lil' miss Poppy here as we are. Well good news, Courtney is a bulldog addict so stay tuned to this corner of the internet as it will likely be stacked with loads of Poppy pictures in the coming months.

Pet names are a funny thing, sometimes they're completely random, other times they're so on the nose that they can be a little campy (like calling a Dalmatian "Spot") but every now and then you get a pet who's name seems so fitting that you'd think they'd been born for it. This weeks Feel Good Friday feature falls into the latter category, as she's so tiny and precious that it's tough to gaze into her big sweet eyes and call her anything other than "Princess". And who better to present this little pocket sized Princess than the doctor we've made famous for predictably posing with pocket sized pets: Dr. Meghan Knox!

As newly crowned royalty, Princess here got her first taste of the life as cameras flashed and whirred while little Princess mugged and purred for her adoring fans. At only 10 weeks we're set to see a lot more of Princess as she catches up on her vaccines and kitten visits, so prepare to see a lot more of this majestic little monarch!
