We had a very busy week last week! On Thursday, I was a guest speaker at a rabbit club meeting for a nearby county. We did a brief activity where we discussed the top 5 things they should know about their rabbits when going into fair. We also discussed ways to identify their breeds, and why it’s important to get them from a reputable breeder.
On Saturday, I traveled to the upper peninsula to help with the Chippewa County 4-H Rabbit & Poultry Clinic. I had the kiddos teach me the steps of showmanship. I purposely did steps wrong for them to correct me. I find this effective because you gain confidence in being able to go through the steps and it’s makes them explain why we do those steps. Plus, they learn to teach each other.
A lot of these kids will be picking up their market pens in the next couple of weeks and I’m so excited for them to see how they do at their county fairs! If time allows, I try to stop back in during their fairs to see how they are doing with the things they have learned.
