Took from a friend!
Very interesting read.
ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A YORKIE?
HERES A FEW THINGS TO KNOW:
*Yorkshire Terriers are $1200.00 and up. Females are typically $1500.00 to $2500.00. (this doesnt include shipping and handling but does include non registered, ckc and AKC)
*Reputable breeders will want to ask you just as many questions as you want to ask them.
*It's important to see the home your pup will be raised in for the first 8 to 9 weeks of it's life. You do not want to contribute to a puppy mill with inadequate space and care.
*Dont forget to check your state's Puppy Lemon Law, and the puppy lemon law of the state the puppy is In.
* Most breeders do require a substantial non-refundable down payment to hold your puppy, if you can not hand deliver this there are safe options to send this money:
Walmart to Walmart requires photo ID, has cameras, wants the name address, and a number of both parties involved, and provides both with a receipt of the transaction.
Paypal business allows disputes, in incase any faults have come up with your puppy purchase.
United postal service money order. ID REQUIRED, a receipt given.
* Half the people "breeding" and selling on the internet via Facebook and craigslist are scams, stolen dogs, or stolen photos of the dog. You must do your due diligence in researching the breeder.
Google names and images and numbers
Check how long their Facebook has been active, how active it looks, and how real the people and images seem.
Ask for references, and check the realness of the references... VET Ref is ideal but make sure the vet and office are real.
When dealing with transactions overseas, remember you can't see their kenneling environment, they ha e laws for dogs such as not shipping until a certain age and vaccinations. The laws don't protect You. Most are scams but not all. Check the registry. Support America π
Ask for numerous photos, have them hold up a newspaper with the date on it next to the puppy, and ask to Skype or video chat, while chatting ask to see the kenneling and whelping areas, some. mess and poop are always expected with puppy, yes but you will know a bad place when you see it.
* Yorkies cost a lot upfront to purchase, but they cost even more in the long run.. grooming is at least every month not to mention the supplies you need at home to stay on top of their grooming, they have delicate teeth and throats, breeding them is a big risk and can be very costly. If you do not have the money to purchase from a reputable breeder, then you should save til you do. Buying a dog for 300 to 500 and paying for shipping is just asking to be scammed!!!
* Parti Yorkies were accepted by the AKC years ago. They do exist!! These puppies start at $3000.00 and up. (Not including shipping and handling but does not include ckc and AKC) They are more expensive than Traditional Yorkshire Terriers because of their rare coloring and markings as well as eye color. Some have green and or blue eyes.
* "Tea Cup" yorkies may be all the fad these days and the tinier the better. I don't call them tea cups, I call them runts. Tea cup can mean fits in a tea cup when born, and or will be no more then 4 lbs at adult age. But remember even with genetic testing and papered lines, a dog under the 5lb mark could experience many vet costs and medical conditions especially if bred to be small. ( Bad breeding practices) This is not the breeder's fault or yours... this is just what's expected of a super tiny underdeveloped runt. However, in some cases, tea cups can live long and healthy.
I believe the Guinness record for a "teacup" Yorkie was just shy of 2lbs ( adult weight) but this baby died before the age of 2...
