We had a big weekend with Nicole at the DAWG (Dallas Agility Working Group) trial in McKinney, Texas. The crew there was super friendly and hospitable!

The baby Fable impressed me and made out with two new titles (Novice FAST and Open Jumpers), first place Novice Standard, first place Open Jumpers, and a second place Novice FAST!

I also brought Koa into the mix and she earned herself a few Qualifying scores. She hasn’t had a chance to run at a trial since last summer. Super happy with the weekend and the girls advancement in skills. 🥰

What kind of dog walk do you like to train and why?

I’m a believer in forming our training around what the dog needs from us to be most successful and how they learn best; not conforming to popular trends.

Koa started with 2o2o (two-on-two-off stopped contacts) and during the three years of using stopped contacts it was a miserable process as she hardly ever hit the yellow or even gave me criteria during an actual run. Most critically, it demotivated her entire performance.

During Covid-19, despite heavy criticism from local and abroad trainers, we switched to running contacts. Since then Koa has hardly every missed her criteria and finds the agility game fun and rewarding. We need to work on directional cues and obstacle discrimination but I get more eager work from her now. Luckily I’m fast enough on my feet (for now) to help mitigate the lack of skill to ensure the correct path.

Foxy Fable has earned her first sport title! I have never done a FastCat event before and gave it a try the last two weekends. She loves the game and getting faster. I’m excited to see how this little girl matures, gaining speed and confidence in her sports.

After a year of Koa recovering from a pregnancy and back injuries we finally synced together in health, mind, and training and had an amazing run! Koa earned her Excellent Standard and now we run Master/Master and one step closer to Nationals! 🥰

The Origin litter is 21 weeks old! Here’s Fable (18.8 pounds) working her wobble board and handler focus. She may end up jumping 16 inches when she’s full grown.

The Kingman trial was Koa’s first trial since maternity leave. I kept it simple with just two runs for two days as I wanted to evaluate where she is and what we need to work on.

For her first run in months I’m pretty pleased! She wasn’t consistent with contacts so I’ll need to refresh her there, she still needs to drop maybe a pound of mommy weight and that should help her get her speed and form back up. I noticed some stutter stepping so I’m bringing out the ol’ Susan Salo jump grids and get her form reconditioned with them.

Fable did so well at her first trial in Enid, Oklahoma! Very quiet, loved watching the dogs run, no potty messes…and she may have tried to join in on a run at one point 😅 She’s gonna be a superb agility prospect!

Running contacts are finally looking consistently solid! Now to fine tune the teeter again, collect for the table, and to work with him not clipping the bar of the handler communicates while over a bar. At knocking is our biggest hurdle yet but vastly improved since this time last year.

The Origins litter are being desensitized to agility trial noises this morning. They started the audio during puppy mash feeding, topped off at the milk bar, and now romping around the pen. No one is startled and they show curiosity to the noises.

Some noises were: teeter slamming down, crates clashing, “Go!” start signal, dogs barking, owners shouting commands, briefs cheering and clapping, etc.

I feel so delighted to have such an amazing border collie who trusts me enough to do this kind a photoshoot for me. She is such an adventurous and giving girl and I can’t wait to meet the little nuggets who are due within the next 10 days. 🥰

I’m also super grateful for long-time pet friend who has branched out on a new adventure with a floral business. I dropped by the same day I planned this spur of the moment shoot and she provided me such lovely flora. Definitely check her out and support her business because her work is amazing. 👌

A few years ago the world learned that our favorite Kong stuffers could be potentially fatal to dogs. Some Peanut butter brands started using Xylitol in their product which is toxic to and will kill any dog who digests it.

Xylitol sweetener has rebranded itself under the name “Birch Sugar”. Please continue to diligently check ingredients list for Xylitol and Birch Sugar before allowing dogs to consume a product.
