EDIT- we have had a few people reach out to see how they can donate towards Xenas medical bills. You can send through Venmo or write a check and schedule a time to drop it off. Our Venmo is and just put Xena in the subject line so we know!

If you’ve been following us for a while you may recognize this sweet face, Xena. She was dumped at the Augusta lake over the summer along with some of her siblings and we held 2 of them on a stray hold for Augusta animal control. They have been with us since.

A couple things about Xena she is a very energetic and lovey girl who just wants to be in your presence at all times. Whether that’s on your lap or just in the vicinity she craves the presence of humans. Sometimes she is exerting so much energy at once that she hurts herself, accidentally, but so much so that she requires surgery for some of her injuries. She has been able to recover from the surgeries pretty quickly at the shelter but it wasn’t ideal.

Well her most recent injury has presented us with another surgical solution. She has a hygroma fluid bubble, which is caused by repeated trauma or pressure from lying on hard surfaces. The surgery to treat this would include draining the fluid from her elbow and putting a drain in to make sure it’s not filling back up. The drain would be there for 3-5 days at least. Xena would need 24/7 care and supervision to make sure everything stays in place and to make sure it’s staying as clean as possible. Unfortunately we don’t have the funds or a calm and supervised environment for her to recover in if we have to go the surgical route, which is very likely in her situation. We are desperate to find a home for her immediately or we will have to consider humane euthanasia. This decision is never made lightly and her safety is our top priority, but the reality is we don’t have to funds to pay for a surgery every time she hurts herself. Please we are begging anyone to open their hearts and home to Xena.

Hickory is in DESPERATE need of the following items:

- Dog food (about $40/bag)
- Cat food (wet & dry)
- Dog treats & bones to keep the dogs busy during colder weather.

Our amazing friends and followers did not disappoint when we asked for blanket donations just a couple of weeks ago. Thank you to all who were able to donate to our animals, we will have enough blankets for everyone at Hickory this Winter 🥹❤️

Lucky is going on 4 YEARS at Hickory 💔 He spends 98% of his day in a kennel where he has grown to be content, but he would be ecstatic to have a home to call his own.

HICKORY IS HIRING!!

We are looking to hire part-time 25-30 hours a week. Must be available for weekends! It is winter so also must be able to work in the cold and also the job can be physically demanding as well! If you are interested please apply!

‼️ HELP NEEDED‼️

These two dogs had been running Leon for a couple weeks. They have recently been kept in someone’s back yard while they are out of town family is demanding they leave. They’ve been checked for microchips and are very friendly dogs. Is there anyone who could help by taking these dogs in?!

The Eldorado shelter is so full!

People are not claiming their pets. If you are looking for a pet PLEASE go check them out.
1 of the dogs is a 3-4 month old pup. Call 316-322-8844.

Hours open are 9-4 except Fridays til noon.

These dogs WILL be euthanized and Hickory is completely full. Please help!

PopTart. “ Poppie” 😻

This boy was surrendered to us after his family had jadopted a child and the child was allergic to Poppie. He’s a big boy who’s about 14 pounds and he is 3 years old! He’s very calm mannered and very sweet. He doesn’t mind the other cats but prefers his space and lately has been getting a little annoyed in the shelter setting, which I think would completely go away if he went into a home. His old owners had allowed him to hang out on the patio of their apartment which he enjoyed very much!

Adopt Nova 🐽

Novie has been with us for over 2 years now after being saved from being euthanized due to no space in the shelter.

She is absolutely smitten over hoomans of all ages. She loves all toys but especially pig toys! She is a HUGE cuddle bug who desperately needs a home where she can receive cuddles endlessly.

🍁☀️Fall into the new season with a new furry friend like Lenny ☀️🍁

Lenny would love a home to call his own! He is a 2 year old border collie mix who would thrive in an active household. He loves to run, jump, swim, and play fetch.
