We hope everyone has a safe, fun Fourth of July. The kennel is closed to the public today in recognition of the holiday. As ever, we are grateful to the staff and volunteers who will be in to take care of our pups! You can still call 216-664-3069 for animal control needs.
We'll be back to normal hours tomorrow, commencing our $21 adoption promotion which lasts all July! Let's kick it off with lots of adoptions this weekend!
Here are some important reminders for today (and the rest of the weekend, as festivities will surely continue) so that it is a safe one for our pets as well. The kennel is already full, and unfortunately this is already a busy holiday for shelters across the U.S. We would love to minimize the number of pets who go missing this year!
-Make sure pets have ID tags ON! Even if your pet is microchipped, having a tag on or some other form of external identification makes it easier to get a pet back home. If a neighbor finds your dog, they can call you directly rather than needing to take the pet to an already-full kennel.
-Keep pets on-leash, even in the yard. Be prepared for unexpected fireworks. These can frighten pets and cause them to bolt, even if it's out of character for them.
-And double check your gates. If you're cooking out and have guests coming and going, it's easy for someone to forget to properly bolt a gate.
-Keep them home! Leave pets home from busy, crowded, hot events.
-Create a safe zone for pets. Make sure there is a comfortable spot for pets to go when the fireworks pick up. Try playing white noise, music or TV. You can offer a frozen treat or food puzzle to try to distract them. Calming chews can help, too! Sometimes, just some calm and comforting company helps too.
If your pet DOES go missing, call 216-664-3069. Be sure to look at www.tinyurl.com/CleLostDogs to see all dogs at the kennel who were found lost.
Thanks for your help in making this a good holiday weekend for all!
