This is a courtesy post. One of our followers is trying to help the person who is currently watching these two sweet beagles. Her contact information is listed in the posting. We really hope someone will step forward and give these two a chance.

Meet Heidi and Chaplin!
Unfortunately the owner of these two, super sweet, Field Trial rabbit dogs, passed away and no extended family were willing or able to take them, leaving them for humane euthanasia. Of course the animal lover in me couldn’t stand the idea of two perfectly healthy 6year old (female Heidi) and 8yrs old (male, Chaplin) be put to sleep just because they’re “hunting dogs.”
Here’s a little information:
Heidi (left)is an intact, 6 year old retired field trial dog and Chaplin(right) is a 8year old intact, retired hunting dog. Heidi and Chaplin DO NOT chase or run a rabbit; they will simply walk the parameter of a yard and howl when they get a scent. They are not house trained, but have potential to be. Vaccine history is limited, but will be updated if a home is found. Chaplin has vestibular disease meaning he has a slight head tilt, but nothing medically wrong with him. (There is bloodwork to show) They are now getting used to human touch and affection and do well with children of all ages, other dogs and cats.

Currently both these sweet babies are living in my back yard, but I would love to find them a home where they can continue to “roam” in a fenced yard and be turned into a indoor pet to live the rest of their lives out.

Please, if you or anyone you know may be interested in helping find these babies a forever home please contact Christine at 804.980.1677.

MEET PATTON!

From his foster mom:
"Normally, when writing adoption posts for our fosters, we use adjectives like “sweet,” “darling,” and “cute.” Don’t get us wrong, Patton is all of those things, but he’s also one of the absolute COOLEST and unbothered little beagles we’ve ever met. At his initial vet appointment, the staff described him as “perfect,” with the doctor commenting that Patton is one of the calmest beagles he’s met in years.

He does have a typical beagle bay, but he generally reserves it to alert his humans to something, fend off backyard squirrels, or to convey some other need. His namesake, General Patton, would likely have risen early each day to a rendition of ‘Reveille,’ traditionally played on a BUGLE. We think the furry Patton misunderstood the history books and likes to wake his foster family with what they have started referring to as his version of “Reveille” belted out by a BEAGLE, signaling he’d like to go potty.

Patton is a confident little guy who loves people. When outside, he loves to periodically run over to his humans, put his front paws on their leg as if to request a quick hug, then trot back off to frolic with his furry foster brothers. He is learning how to play with the other pups in the house, and is becoming rather fond of the game of “chase.” He’s shown only mild interest in toys, though does love a Kong stuffed with yummy treats.

Patton does great in his crate when his foster family leaves. He also sleeps well in it at night, though tends to get a little restless around 2:30am each morning. His foster family has noticed he seems to be a bit itchy, so they are currently treating this with calming baths and Benadryl to make him more comfortable and hopefully help him have a more restful night of sleep. Patton is house trained, rides well in cars, and is a polite eater. His foster family has not observed any inappropriate chewing, so within the last couple of days, have started testing leaving him out of the crate when gone for short periods. So far he has done extremely well.

Patton is believed to be two years old and weighs approximately 20 lbs. He is up-to-date on vaccines, microchipped, and will be neutered on July 8th. If interested in adopting this amazing boy, please complete an application at www.homesfurhounds.org. Patton is located in Newport News, Virginia."

COOKIE IS STILL HERE.

Cookie is a young, playful, good natured beagle. He is adapting to pet life fairly quickly, learning to potty outside using the doggie door, adjusting to walking on a leash and playing with toys.

He is friendly with other dogs but still is a little timid with people, although he loves you if you have food.

He stays in his crate without protest when they leave the house, especially if you give him a treat distraction.

Overall, he is a good boy and will make a great pet.

Cookie is vaccinated, heartworm negative, micro-chipped and neutered.

For an application go to www.homesfurhounds.org. He is located in Williamsburg, Va.

We've had so many dogs come in during the last week it's hard to keep up with posting their pictures. Tommy, Rosie and Daisy Mae are all settled in their foster homes and will be getting to the vet in the next week. We will post updates on them after their vet visits but we wanted to make sure everyone saw the pictures of these cuties who arrived this week.

This is heartbreaking.

This is heartbreaking.

For PET OWNERS that take their dogs to lakes and creeks, please read this warning from Morgan & Patrick Fleming.

This morning we thought, it’s so hot! Let’s go to the lake! We took our sweet Arya to the lake and had the best day playing ball and swimming around! About 30 minutes later on the drive home, we noticed her making weird noises and she threw up and pooped in the car. We called our vet on the drive and they suggested we take her in. By this point our girl couldn’t even stand. They told us she was in critical condition so we took her to the ER. By the time we got there, she was brain dead. Today was absolutely awful. We lost our fun, loving, and crazy girl to what we can only assume was a lake toxin such as blue green algae. Arya, no dog will ever replace you in our hearts. We already miss you more than you could know. I hope you’re running around like a wild girl with all the other boarder collies in doggo heaven ♥️

We love every adoption, but when it’s a senior dog it’s always a little special. This wonderful family had actually applied to meet a puppy and a middle aged dog in addition to Rodney. Luckily they met Rodney and it was a perfect match. We are so happy that he is going to have a wonderful home with a doggy sister and lots of love.

Once again we received a call for help and couldn’t say “No”. These cute little dogs were part of a group of 19 found in deplorable conditions. Full of fleas and living in urine and f***s. They are headed here today and are about to begin a wonderful new life.

Here was a posting we saw on Facebook Friday from Giles County.

"Meet Chico and Peanut

These two little dogs with a lot of love to give are looking for a home. Their dad's family called looking for help, their dad is currently passing away from cancer and none of his family are able to take these boys in. They are puppy pad trained, and already neutered. Chico is 7 years old, and Peanut is 11 years old. They are confused right now, they do not understand why the man they have loved their whole lives is unable to take care of them."

One of our foster moms just happened to be out in this direction this weekend and was able to take in these two cute little guys. So they will be arriving at Homes Fur Hounds, Inc. today.

It’s official! Highway’s foster mom became a foster failure yesterday. She’s been fostering him since he arrived and realized she just couldn’t let him go. So now Highway has a forever home with another little doggie as his BFF.

Thanks so much to Bob Tubbs for offering to go pick up this cute 1 year old beagle today. Her owner passed away and she needed a place to go. We also want to thank Richard Rodriguez for immediately offering to foster her when she arrives. Welcome Daisy Mae to Homes Fur Hounds, Inc.

How can you resist those big eyes? We're hoping you can't.

China is a 3-4 year old VERY sweet and friendly Chihuahua. China is such a well behaved little girl we know she is going to make the perfect companion for someone. She is completely housebroken, gets along with both the dogs and cats in the foster home, and loves to snuggle with you on the coach. She also loves to get under the covers and sleep with her person. She is a very confident little dog and not shy like many of the little dogs we take in.

She is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, and micro-chipped. Don't miss out on this this wonderful little girl. Our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org. She is located in Williamsburg, Va.

I had to share this. Our foster mom, Stephanie Sword drove to a rural shelter to pick up Wyatt (pictured here). This was what she had to say.

"I walked into a rural shelter yesterday to pick up one dog. I had to pass several dogs to get to that one dog. My heart broke for the circumstances these many little souls had found themselves in. By no means is this a slam against the shelter itself. The staff was wonderful and all the animals were being cared for but it’s not a place an animal deserves to linger. It’s loud, deafening in fact, to the point that you can’t even hear yourself breathing.
The smell is
overwhelming.
Every dog threw itself at me to get at least a glance or a kind word, hopeful that they would be the one chosen. It was soul crushing to have to walk out of there with only one dog. This is one tiny rural shelter among thousands who is overrun with dumped dogs, cats and kittens.
I was supposed to have a nice phone chat with my daughter on the drive home from this shelter but I couldn’t call her. I had to just drive and think about where I had just come from, I was numb.
Then I heard a little sigh coming from the back seat and looked in my rearview mirror to see a bewildered but hopeful dog looking at me with big brown eyes and I was refocused telling him “you’re ok now, we’ve got you”.💕
Please adopt, please foster, please donate if you can. Every shelter and rescue needs whatever help you can offer.💕
ps the little dog in the back seat slept soundly with a full tummy and a few other foster doggos by his side to show him everything is going to be ok💕"

The clinking of metal bowls is the only change in my blurry days. Whines turn into whimpers, then silence. I watch families, their laughter echoing in the sterile hallways. Do they not see the yearning in my eyes?

Is my fur not soft enough? My tail wags weak and slow, a forgotten rhythm. Was I ever a good boy? A lump forms in my throat, a constant ache.

Each approaching footstep ignites a spark of hope, but it flickers and dies. They coo at the yipping puppies, their smiles never reaching my kennel. Maybe... tomorrow. But the tomorrows stretch into a lonely forever.

Nobody tells you how quickly dogs age
How one day you wake up and suddenly
their face is all white. Or how their eyes
start to seem more milky than before, or
how you have to call their name a few
more times than you used to.

Everyone says not to blink if you have
children or you'll miss out. But what about
the dog that was there with you before
your children were even thought of? The
dog that was by your side before you even
found love. Nobody tells you to cherish
every moment you have with them....

Cherish the dog. The one that's been there
by your side through every breakup
followed you as you bounced from home
to home. The one that sleeps in your bed
and keeps you from feeling lonely. Cherish
him because one day you'll take him on a
walk and he'll get tired before you and
you'll realise just how many years he's
peen walking beside you....

Sunshine is still available for adoption. Since she arrived she tested positive for Giardia so we spent some time treating her and making sure she was healthy and ready to meet potential adopters. She did meet a couple of approved adopters but the dogs in their homes were not accepting of a puppy, so she is still here. We really want to find her the perfect home with someone who has experience with very small dogs, and hopefully has another young dog for her to play with.

Wyatt has arrived! He is a very cute boy and will be available soon.

Once again I need to give a big “Thank you” to one of our volunteers. When Stephanie Sword heard that we needed a foster for this cute little guy she not only offered to foster him, but she knew we were having problems with transport so she also offered to spend 4 hours on the road going to pick him up. We really wanted to get this guy out of the rural shelter he was in so we are very appreciative of her wonderful offer. This cutie will be arriving today.

ADOPTION ALERT!

Snoopy has been here for awhile. We knew he just needed the right family to come along, and it happened yesterday. Snoopy is usually very timid/frightened around new people, but he was very comfortable around his new family, including new brother, Hank, right away. We are so happy for everyone.
