Happy Caturday!
You may have heard us mention the 29 cats we took into care from one establishment over the last couple weeks. The exciting news is almost all of them are now spayed/neutered and will be made available for adoption this coming week!
This is just one of the two rooms where they are currently residing. Apparently they were having a kitty party last night as they knocked over their cat tree and gobbled down all their food, but don't worry, their morning cleaning was next on the schedule and as you can imagine they "help" greatly. ๐
Another exciting part of this video is that every one in this video is a girl! Yes, out of the 29 cats only three were not orange/buff and over 20 of them are females. ๐ฒ
Interested in adopting one of these ladies? Please keep your eye out on the website this next week and you will start to see a lot of gorgeous orange cats being added, all ready to head off to their new homes.
Crinkles
Happy Caturday!
If you turn your volume way up and listen closely, do you hear the deep rumbling? It reminds us of an old bear in it's cave for hibernation. ๐ Does anyone have any guesses who it could belong to?
Meet Crinkles! Her picture is the thumbnail to help put a face to the sound. Crinkles arrived at the shelter in August with four other house mates. Their owner sadly had to move to a nursing home and there was nobody that could care for the cats any longer. At first arrival two things became apparent immediately, they are all older cats and they were very stressed. Imagine living your whole life in one house with one person and then everything changes and you find yourself in a new, busy, loud living situation. We quickly got the little group set up in our Reading Room so they did not have to stay in a cage and so they could all stay together while they wait for new homes.
Crinkles is one of the two that have started to warm up after several weeks of decompressing and adjusting. She has a little head tilt, her front legs are a bit bowed and she has a touch of old cat lady fur that sticks up in random places, in other words, you can't help but love her! This whole senior pack would benefit greatly by moving back into a quiet, calm household (they do not all need adopted together) where they can return back to their long naps and gentle affection.
Happy Caturday!
Meet Crush ๐ฑ
Crush has quite the story to tell! He arrived in early August after a landlord found him hiding in a closet. The worst part, nobody had been in the apartment for two weeks. How did this boy survive? Only he knows! He was taken right to the vet who said other then being dehydrated, he was actually in ok health. He came back to the shelter where he was given plenty of food, water and the most important part, a hidey bed. He spent the first several weeks in his hidey bed pretending the world did not exist. All of a sudden one day he realized we were all here to help and popped out of his hidey bed and has not stopped loving people since! He does still love his beds but now they are the big fluffy ones that he can stretch out in instead of the hidey ones. Another new adorable quirk he has started doing is giving kisses which you can see in the video. Who would not want scoop this sweetheart right up?!
In June 2019, the Lycoming County SPCA stopped accepting feral cats for euthanasia and shifted our efforts to Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). Eventually, we were able to spay/neuter the stray and feral cats in-house with the help of Dr. Laura and her vet-tech Natalie, who you will see in action in the video below. In 2023, we physically TNR-ed 651 cats, and so far this year, we have TNR-ed 287 cats through this program.
TNR is a humane way to control our community's stray and feral cat populations. Using a humane trap, cats are caught, spayed/neutered, and then either returned to their outdoor colony or adopted into good homes if they are friendly, or young enough to be rehabilitated. Not only does this keep cats from procreating and birthing thousands of homeless cats, but we can also find homes for those who are not feral.
Your gift to TNR helps humanely and sustainably improve the health and safety of our community.

Happy Caturday!
Meet Oreo and Mr Mittens.
These two handsome men arrived together after their family was unable to care for them anymore. As you can tell, they were well cared for boys who are used to the pampered indoor life. They were rightfully nervous when they first arrived but quickly showed us their friendly side! In fact, they were so busy trying to rub on the camera to get attention that our photo shoot turned into a video shoot. ๐ These boys will need adopted together as they seek each other out for comfort and are each others best friend.

Happy Caturday!
Around Halloween a group of 18 cats came in from a situation that was turning unsafe for them. Their owner sadly passed away leaving noone to care for them afterwards, resulting in them trying to survive on their own outside. Many of these cats have now found their new families, but the quieter, more timid cats are the ones that struggle to find the family that will help them continue to adjust to a new lifestyle. We thankfully have an amazing partnership with our local Petsmart where they will house six of our felines at a time as they wait for their new homes to find them. They not only give them warm beds and fun cat trees, but they also work with some of our most shut down cats; helping them remember how to be a loved cat again.
Collins (now adopted), Sailor and Maren are all part of the group of 18 and are some of the ones who needed the most work to help them realize they did not have to always be in fight or flight mode. We were delighted to receive this video of not only Collins and Maren coming down for attention but of Sailor actually starting to play! It truly takes a community to help every animal and we have a pretty amazing one. โค
