Long read.. but the last line says it all !!!

"A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.
He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.
After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.
When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that lookd like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.
When he was close enough, he called out, 'Excuse me, where are we?'
'This is Heaven, sir,' the man answered.
Would you happen to have some water?' the man asked.
Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up'.The man gestured, and the gate began to open.
'Can my friend,' gesturing toward his dog, 'come in, too?' the traveller asked.
'I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets.'
The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.
After anothr long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he aproached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.
'Excuse me!' he called to the man. 'Do you have any water?'
'Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in..'
'How about my friend here?' the traveller gestured to the dog.
There should be a bowl by the pump.'
They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveller filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.
When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.
'What do you call this place?' the traveller asked.
This is Heaven,' he answered.
'Well, that's confusing,' the traveller said. 'The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.'
'Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell.'
'Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?'
'No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.'" Dogs are family ❤

📝 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬: 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐎𝐑 Ten-year-old, Nova, was an owner surrender on New Years Eve!! Nova's world has been turned upside down with her owner dumping her.
She's now in a loud, scary shelter and she is unsure of what is happening to her.
Nova has several positive notes. She is easy to leash, walks on a semi-loose leash, she has a wagging tail, she seems to be potty-trained, she goes into her kennel and remains quiet unless someone walks by.

Unfortunately, Nova is on the euthanasia list because of her age and because she is pacing back and forth at the front of her kennel, is vocal, has dilated eyes and is panting!! These are NOT reasons to die!!!

Please consider opening your heart to Nova and give her the love, stability and attention that she deserves. Please share this post so that the right person sees it and please pledge, if you are able, using the link in this post, so that rescues have the funds they need to continue their important work.

📝 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬:
A1914252 Nova (SA35) – Medical (Senior), Behavior (at the front of the kennel, pacing back and forth, vocal, dilated eyes, open mouth panting).

1/3/2024: BEHAVIOR NOTE: Placing on Adopt Eval: Nova was a move adopt this morning and when approaching the outside runs she presented a heavy open mouth pant, low whimpering, dilated eyes and furrowed brows. I was able to place her on leash and walked her in on a semi loose leash, when offering her treats she showed no interest. As she was placed inside kennel she started heavy whimpering, barking, pacing in kennel jumping on walls, heavy open mouth panting, eyes dilated, furrowed brows, painted in kennel and knocking her food/water bowl over.

1/6/2024: BEHAVIOR NOTE: Approaching kennel nova was at the front pacing back and forward, being vocal with dilated eyes, wagging tail, and an open mouth. I opened door and was able to easily leash her. On the leash she walked well and loosely but was vocal the whole way to the runs. I placed her in runs and saw that she quickly went to potty. Coming back inside she walked the same but was panting. Went straight into her kennel and went straight for the treats on her bed.

1/7/2024: BEHAVIOR NOTE: When approaching kennel, Nova begins to vocalize as she sees me ready the leash and will begin to heavy pant and whine as she holds pulled back face muscles. When leashing she allowed me to leash, and she walks semi-loosely. When in runs by herself she begins to vocalize again and when leashing she holds pulled back ears, dilated pupils, and a whale eye when attempting to leash to return to her kennel, will be quiet in her kennel but when passing by she will begin to vocalize and is constantly holding a heavy pant with her ears pulled back.

📝 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬: Four-year-old, Maci, was picked up as a stray on 12/14/2023. A caller stated that she was 𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐃 𝐔𝐏 𝐁𝐄𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐃 𝐀 𝐁𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒!! Notes state that when she arrived at the shelter, she was lactating but no puppies were with her. Maci has been in the shelter for 25+ days but there are only two staff notes up until 12/20/2023. Maci has several positive notes in that short amount of time though. She is wiggly and has a wagging tail. She is easy to leash and walks loosely out of her kennel and is quiet in her kennel. There are no notes on her after 12/20/2023 and now the shelter is saying she has developed a URI.

Maci is on the euthanasia list because of a URI and because of time/space being in the shelter for 25+ days!! These are NOT reasons to die!!!

Please consider opening your heart to Maci and give her the medical treatment, love, stability and attention that she deserves. Please share this post so that the right person sees it and please pledge, if you are able, using the link in this post, so that rescues have the funds they need to continue their important work.

📝 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬: Sixteen-month-old, Cleo, was surrendered by her owner on 12/10/2023. She is still so young and such a big puppy!!! Cleo's world has been turned upside down. she found herself in a loud and scary shelter, totally confused and unsure about her future. Despite all this, Cleo's been an absolute star. She's the quiet, calm type in her kennel, just chilling with a waggy tail and a relaxed.

Staff says she’s great on a leash and seems to know all about being potty trained. But here's the deal: because she's been at the shelter for over 29 days, she's been put on the euthanasia list. It’s just about space and time, not about her behavior or anything she's done. And honestly, that just doesn't sit right.

Cleo deserves a real shot at a happy life. So, what do you say? Can you help spread the word to find her a forever home? Maybe chip in a little to help the rescue keep doing their awesome work? Every bit of support gives Cleo, and buddies like her, a fighting chance. Let’s not let her down. She’s counting on us!

📝 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬: Two-year-old, Benny, was turned in as a stray on 12/5/2023 because he was laying in front of a residence. Even though Benny came into the shelter over a month ago, he only has a few behavioral notes but they are all positive notes! When staff approach his kennel, he greets them with a neutral body and wagging tail. He is easy to leash and he walks on a loose leash. He lays in his kennel and is quiet. He is also very treat motivated. These are ALL wonderful notes for Benny.

Unfortunately, Benny is on the euthanasia list because of heartworms and for being in the shelter for 34+ days. These are NOT reasons to die!!!

Please consider opening your heart to Benny and give him the medical treatment, love, stability and attention that he deserves. 1/4/2024: BEHAVIOR NOTE: Benny is very treat motivated, as I approach he is standing in front of kennel door, he is easy to leash but I still offer treats as I leash him as he eats them up. once in outside area he will pull on leash but is easily redirected with treat trail, I place a few treats behind me as we slowly walks, he does take his time eating every treat being tossed down and will walk at your pace as you continue to place treats down on the ground for him. followed a great treat trail back and from outside runs. once at kennel I toss treats into kennel and he follows right in, throughout the day he lays in bed quietly.

Hello,

See the kennel cards below and attached notes for dogs that need help at the shelter.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

📝 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬: Two-year-old, Canelo, was brought in as a stray after having been reported as loose near a public park and a school with at least one other dog. He greets staff sitting patiently at the front of his kennel with a wagging tail, a wiggly body and a soft face. He is easy to leash and walks out of his kennel readily on a loose leash, looking up at staff looking for more treats! He has been noted as jumping on his kennel wall and barking at a neighbor dog, but staff moved the other dog to a new kennel which helped Canelo relax. Please consider opening your heart to Canelo and giving him the love, stability and attention that he deserves.

12/29/2023 BEHAVIOR NOTE: Canelo was a move adopt this morning. i approached him and he was presenting a tense body and whale eyes. when i reached out to leashed him, he would back up. i kept dropping treats to see if he would take them, and if he would relax and he did start to relax, but everytime i would reach out he would back up and tense up again. i had to go inside the run, he would immediately run to the towards the back of the run trying to avoid me. when i was getting closer he then tried to climb up the fence. Another Act had to help, the Act stayed outside the run and reached out to leash him, i kept my distance to keep him relaxed, the other act managed to leash him, and she handed the leash to me. we walked to south
on a loose leash, but he did not take the treats then. placing on adopt eval.
12/31/2023 BEHAVIOR NOTE: Approaching kennel, Canelo was at the front sitting down. I baby talked and opened the door and he began to pace in place and proceeded to sit down again for me to leash him. I easily leashed him, he walked out loosely with wiggly body. I placed him in runs and he quickly went to potty. When trying to get him from the runs, he was jumping. I squatted down and then baby talked him, he got on all four and then sat which allowed me to place leash. He was a bit more excited, he had a fast wagging tail, open mouth, and tried to jump on me. I tossed treats which he was super interested in and he proceeded to walk loosely the rest of the way.
1/1/2024 BEHAVIOR NOTE: When approaching kennel he was jumping on the sides of wall barking and growling at his neighbor, knocking his water bowl everywhere, heavy open mouth panting with tongue hanging out, eyes dilated and furrowed brows. I also Observed that he painted in his kennel overnight. I moved the dog away from him to see if his behavior improved. As it was his turn to go outside I was able to easily leash him, as we began walking he walked on a semi loose leash but is
highly treat motivated and could be redirected. Once in the runs he ran the fence line with others play bowing and barking at them. Later when retrieving him he greeted me at the front with a loose wiggly body and heavy open mouth pant. I was
able to leash him and walked him back into kennel.
1/2/2024 BEHAVIOR NOTE: When approaching his kennel today I did observe that he painted in his kennel overnight but was calmer in kennel and greeted me with a loose wiggly body, fast wagging tail and relaxed body. So moving the other dog away definitely helped him relax. As it was his turn to go outside I used a treat trail to get him walking on loose leash and when placed outside he ran the fence line with others then used the bathroom.
1/4/2024 BEHAVIOR NOTE: Canelo greets me with a waggy tail, wiggly body, soft expressed face. if i reach into my treat bag, he will sit and wag his tail and wait for the treats. when we would walk outside, he would walk on a loose leash right beside me, looking up at me wanting to get treats. when i first went into the row and did inventory, canelo pottied in the kennel, but he had not painted, but when i got to his kennel to take him out during am cleaning, he left the kennel painted.
1/6/2024 BEHAVIOR NOTE: Canelo paces back and fourth, jumping on the kennel door when no one is around, but if standing in front of his kennel, he will sit and wait for treats. he painted overnight. I have not seeing him trying to climb out the kennel.

Hello,

See the kennel cards below and attached notes for dogs that need help at the shelter.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

📝 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬: Seven-year-old, Miko, was brought in as a stray with cherry eye in his right eye (please see medical notes). Shelter notes indicate that he may be feeling a bit unsure, at times, in the shelter environment as he has been noted as a bit timid and with his ears back. He is able to be leashed and, once he was on the floor, he seemed to relax and began to wag his tail! He walks on a loose leash next to staff, seeking affection from them and from other staff, as well. We hope that Miko can find a loving home, out of the stressful shelter environment. Miko is rescue only, so please share his post to rescue groups and please pledge, if you are able, using the link in this post, so that rescues have the funds they need to continue their important work.

📝 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬:
