➡️ 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚:
Hello,
See the kennel cards below and attached notes for dogs that need help at the shelter.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks!
📝 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬: Two-year-old, Canelo, was brought in as a stray after having been reported as loose near a public park and a school with at least one other dog. He greets staff sitting patiently at the front of his kennel with a wagging tail, a wiggly body and a soft face. He is easy to leash and walks out of his kennel readily on a loose leash, looking up at staff looking for more treats! He has been noted as jumping on his kennel wall and barking at a neighbor dog, but staff moved the other dog to a new kennel which helped Canelo relax. Please consider opening your heart to Canelo and giving him the love, stability and attention that he deserves. Please share this post so that the right person sees it and please pledge, if you are able, using the link in this post, so that rescues have the funds they need to continue their important work.

12/29/2023 BEHAVIOR NOTE: Canelo was a move adopt this morning. i approached him and he was presenting a tense body and whale eyes. when i reached out to leashed him, he would back up. i kept dropping treats to see if he would take them, and if he would relax and he did start to relax, but everytime i would reach out he would back up and tense up again. i had to go inside the run, he would immediately run to the towards the back of the run trying to avoid me. when i was getting closer he then tried to climb up the fence. Another Act had to help, the Act stayed outside the run and reached out to leash him, i kept my distance to keep him relaxed, the other act managed to leash him, and she handed the leash to me. we walked to south
on a loose leash, but he did not take the treats then. placing on adopt eval.
12/31/2023 BEHAVIOR NOTE: Approaching kennel, Canelo was at the front sitting down. I baby talked and opened the door and he began to pace in place and proceeded to sit down again for me to leash him. I easily leashed him, he walked out loosely with wiggly body. I placed him in runs and he quickly went to potty. When trying to get him from the runs, he was jumping. I squatted down and then baby talked him, he got on all four and then sat which allowed me to place leash. He was a bit more excited, he had a fast wagging tail, open mouth, and tried to jump on me. I tossed treats which he was super interested in and he proceeded to walk loosely the rest of the way.
1/1/2024 BEHAVIOR NOTE: When approaching kennel he was jumping on the sides of wall barking and growling at his neighbor, knocking his water bowl everywhere, heavy open mouth panting with tongue hanging out, eyes dilated and furrowed brows. I also Observed that he painted in his kennel overnight. I moved the dog away from him to see if his behavior improved. As it was his turn to go outside I was able to easily leash him, as we began walking he walked on a semi loose leash but is
highly treat motivated and could be redirected. Once in the runs he ran the fence line with others play bowing and barking at them. Later when retrieving him he greeted me at the front with a loose wiggly body and heavy open mouth pant. I was
able to leash him and walked him back into kennel.
1/2/2024 BEHAVIOR NOTE: When approaching his kennel today I did observe that he painted in his kennel overnight but was calmer in kennel and greeted me with a loose wiggly body, fast wagging tail and relaxed body. So moving the other dog away definitely helped him relax. As it was his turn to go outside I used a treat trail to get him walking on loose leash and when placed outside he ran the fence line with others then used the bathroom.
1/4/2024 BEHAVIOR NOTE: Canelo greets me with a waggy tail, wiggly body, soft expressed face. if i reach into my treat bag, he will sit and wag his tail and wait for the treats. when we would walk outside, he would walk on a loose leash right beside me, looking up at me wanting to get treats. when i first went into the row and did inventory, canelo pottied in the kennel, but he had not painted, but when i got to his kennel to take him out during am cleaning, he left the kennel painted.
1/6/2024 BEHAVIOR NOTE: Canelo paces back and fourth, jumping on the kennel door when no one is around, but if standing in front of his kennel, he will sit and wait for treats. he painted overnight. I have not seeing him trying to climb out the kennel.
