Welcome to the reality of shelters! If you are new this shelter … Please, we’re begging- go adopt a dog!

‼️ URGENT PLEA FOR HELP‼️

Our shelter is in crisis, and the situation has reached a breaking point. We are currently housing over 300 dogs, far beyond our capacity, and we need immediate assistance. Warehousing these dogs in a shelter is NOT sustainable, it is unsafe for the animals and the staff who care for them.

Imagine living in a concrete cell, with only 10-15 minutes of outdoor time, if you're lucky. The constant noise, lack of human interaction, and the spread of diseases—this is the daily reality for these dogs. Every day, they sit and wait, hoping that today will be their day to leave, but the truth is, the shelter is so overcrowded that we simply cannot grant them any more time. More dogs continue to arrive, and there is no room left. We cannot wait any longer.

This is where YOU come in.

We need 50 foster or forever homes NOW. If you're ready to help, here’s what you can do:

♥️ Adopt a Dog: If you are ready to make a lifelong commitment, we invite you to adopt. You don't need an appointment, just come to our shelter with a valid ID. Anyone, from anywhere, can adopt as long as they are present in person. Meet your future family member today and take them home! Adoption Fees are ✨ WAIVED ✨ for many of our dogs.

♥️ Foster a Dog: Any dog that has satisfied its stray hold is eligible for foster care. Come to our shelter, meet the dog, and let our Front Desk know you’d like to become a Foster Ambassador. This is a long-term commitment until the dog is adopted, and we will work with you to find a family for them.

Happy 8th Birthday and 7th Gotcha Day Dini!

We are so grateful for the community’s support in catching this lil nugget 7 years ago. Dini was running wild on a cemetery out HWY 20 for around 5 weeks. Eluding capture like a pro! After 9 months in the Mack Shack (which was needed for decompression of a feral pup), Dini was introduced into home life. Lucas made me promise to keep Dini forever and we haven’t regretted the decision once. 💗

Dini is Lucas’ biggest protector, he is our resident puppy trainer and he’s master level at snuggle sessions.

Cooley is patiently waiting while you get up the nerve to adopt another dog! Our guy is a cancer! He has emotional depth beyond his years, he’s deeply caring and loyal. He’s the best caretaker we could ask for. While cancers can sometimes be clingy and insecure; this serves Cooley well. His Clingy = your dream pet, always there when you need a friend! He loves his pack, his people and he will thrive and adapt perfectly to a consistent routine, because … he’s a home body! Home is where is the heart is!

✨ Happy Birthday, Shanna! ✨
Today, we celebrate the incredible force that is Shanna! Shanna is magic! She brings the light, the fun, the spirit and the party. Everyone who knows her will agree! Her energy is contagious! She will make you a believer. She pours her heart and soul into every living being! You’re either with her, or get out of her way because when her intention is set, there’s no turning back! This “intention” can quickly turn into taking every last puppy from the pound, an insanely dangerous dog trapping adventure or an absolute refusal to give up on a hopeless kitten! We happily embrace the wild ride of Shanna’s-rescue-world and we’re forever grateful for our Shanna-banana-from-Indiana.

This last year, rescue has been hard and life has been harder; there have been painful moments and brilliant sparks of joy. Through it all, we still see a glimmer of hope. It’s our greatest delight to serve beside Shanna because when it seems there’s nothing left, Shanna shows us how to move forward with unwavering compassion and grace. There’s always love, there’s always dignity, there’s always doing what is right.

Shanna’s mission has created a movement that our community has truly embraced. It’s been an enormously encouraging gift to watch as our county sprouts new animal support groups and embraces those who are fighting to keep strays out of the cold.

You know what they say, “Surround yourself with dreamers and doers, the believers and thinkers, but most of all, those who see the greatness within you, even when you don't see it yourself."

So, here’s to believing! Here’s to countless lives saved, moments of laughter and tears, to partnership that is rescue, and to celebrating this life! Here’s to challenging ourselves, adding more and keeping grounded through it all. Cheers to this incredible journey!!

What’s that you say? You want a refined, gentleman, of a pet?

I’m Duke! I love my stuffies, I still do puppy-butt wiggles but I’m a standup, easy going-fun-time-guy! I love all humans, any shape and any size… kiddos.. I love them the most! I’m a stickler for the finer things in life: warm fireplace, cozy beds and did I mention I need a human ASAP!

You see I was surrendered for the second time and life has been disappointing! While I am safe and warm in my boarding facility… I’d really like my own human!

Hey folks!

Duke is hoping to find a family to spoil him and promise him forever. Our handsome guy has been housed in boarding and we are hoping we can change that asap. Duke has such a bright spirit and he’s a master level snuggler. Truly, all he wants is to love and be loved. That’s not too much to ask, right?

Duke has lived with other dogs, he loves kids and isn’t super fond of kitties. 8 years old and under 50 lbs.

Hello Friends! We need you! Once an unwanted, unadoptable black pittie from the Ukiah Animal Shelter, Pickles has always been our champion, our “we can do it, we can save lives no matter what” representative!
Pickles is losing his ability to walk on his hind legs. His family needs us!

Pickles has recently made several round trips to multiple veterinarians; the most recent Neuro consult indicated that he may have Chronic degenerative disc disease, spondylosis, arthritis and/or degenerative myopathy. Although an MRI would be great for diagnostics, Pickles is not a candidate for surgery!

Our super star old man, loves life! He’s not showing signs of pain (hint- neurological) but still desires to walk and follow his kiddo around. He is currently unable to tolerate
NSAIDs and pain medication… so the veterinarians are looking into alternatives! Meanwhile here’s what the doctor has ordered: Hydrotherapy, laser therapy and acupuncture with a recheck of liver/kidneys/x-rays! Mom is maxed out and needs us now!

Lastly, our dude has no plans of slowing down, he still has a zest for life and a sparkle in his eyes! He wants to keep walking (he recently got stuck at the top of the mountain) so we are intending on getting a wheelchair!

The story here is that this incredible family drove to the shelter 10 years ago and made a life long commitment to a sweet-little-desperate-doe-eyed-pittie, many years later, they are still just as committed as the day they picked him up! You see, Pickles is a life saver; he’s been through it all with his people. We owe it to him to give him the best possible care and to help his family!
