Protopalythoas
(Button polyps, palys)

Protopalythoas are some of the easiest corals to keep, they come in various color patterns, and are very “forgiving” when it comes to water quality. Protopalythoas must be handled with care as they do contain a toxin that can cause complications if ingested or becomes airborne. Protopalythoas do not have a bony structure but will often take up particles of substrate to incorporate in their leathery base.

- these “soft” coral lack a bony structure
- best kept under low to moderate lighting
- best if kept in moderate water flow
- best kept in water parameters nearing natural sea water
- more tolerant of changes in water conditions than “stony” corals

Protopalythoa are an excellent beginner coral
