Mae is the Dog of the Week!

Say hello to the beautiful Miss Mae. Mae is a 11 month old Terrier mix who currently weighs in at 40 pounds. Mae is looking for an experienced dog owner who understand the needs of Terriers. They should be able and willing to give her the physical and mental enrichment needed to keep her happy and healthy. Mae has been a fairly quiet gal in our care. She seems to want to potty away from her sleeping and eating quarters and so with consistent house training and patience, she should become potty trained with relative ease. Mae has done well around dogs at the shelter, offering tail wags and gentle body language. She enjoys walks with lots of sniffing time. Mae is friendly and loving here at the shelter, presenting herself as a truly happy gal. She is looking for that experienced family who recognizes the importance of positive reinforcement training, to not only build up and develop her confidence but to form a deep, lasting bond with her human(s). She is young and inexperienced to all the things this world has to offer. She is looking for her family to have for her lifetime. Her life expectancy can be for another 15 years so please be ready for this long-term commitment! Her fabulous disposition is oh so deserving!

1) Mae will need to be placed in a home who has had terrier experience.

2) Mae has done well around other dogs at the shelter. If you have another dog, please discuss their personality with your adoption counselor and schedule a time for your resident dog and Mae to meet to be sure they can be great housemates.

3) It is unsure how Mae will do with small animals or cats as terriers can have pray drive. Besides this, puppies in general like to give chase. Please take to your adoption councilor if you have small pets in your home.

4) Mae would likely do best in a home with no children under the age of 9 years due to traditional puppy antics. She also seems to want to 'guard' really high value treats so her time spent with bully sticks, pig ears, knuckle bones, etc. should likely be in a managed setting where kiddos will not be getting in her space.

5) Mae would likely do best in a home with a securely fenced in yard to play in to ensure she has enough space to obtain adequate exercise.

Sneezing can be an appeasement signal that says, I'm no harm we're all good here. Also done a lot upon greetings.

Faith is the Dog of the Week!

Have you ever known a German Shepherd / Husky cross? Do you love their shenanigans and playful personality? Then look no further! Faith is a petite young girl with one dazzling blue eye. She currently weighs in at 43 pounds and is about 16 months old. Faith has quite the sense of humor when it comes to having fun. She is looking for a family is going to love her all the more for that fun-loving personality! She has been polite and playful with other dogs, and is working hard on her leash manners here at the shelter. She can't wait to go on adventures with you! Faith would benefit from positive reinforcement training, along with obedience classes that will help develop your bond and advance her skills. Truly will be a great size for adventuring!

1) Faith might do best in a home with dog experience that will give her plenty of exercise through walks, hikes and/or play sessions in the back yard.

2) We don't know how Faith will do with cats or other small animals, but she has not shown any prey drive at the shelter. Please discuss proper introductions with your adoption counselor to make sure that Faith and any resident small pets will do wonderful together.

3) Even though she will always be on the smaller side of her breeds, Faith would likely do best with children 13 years of age or older as she is still working on being aware of personal space and not bumping into others.

4) Faith will likely have too much energy for some small or older dogs, but may do great with a larger dog who would appreciate her energy and desire to play. She can't wait to meet your resident dog to make sure they can be a good fit.

5) Faith likes to be active so a secured fenced yard would work best for her to get proper exercise. If she does not have a yard, she hopes you will utilize lots of puzzle feeders, brain games, and physical exercise outside the home.

Leo is the Dog of the Week!

Those who know and appreciate Anatolian Shepherds know that they're big and powerful dogs - and Leo is no exception! Leo tips the scales at about 102lbs, and is a powerful giant-breed dog who is looking for a breed experienced home. Anatolian Shepherds are a type of livestock guardian dog (LGD), but we aren't sure what Leo's history is with livestock. We do know that he appreciates spending ample time outside, and will need a home that has a securely fenced property for him to enjoy the outdoors in. Leo REALLY enjoys scratches and will gently lean in for some human touch. He has done well on his leash walks, responding nicely to neck pressure. Like many Anatolians and LGD's, Leo is a tad stoic in his demeanor - he appreciates calm energy, and bonds heavily with his family and friends but may not prefer a lot of strangers. If you're experienced with the breed, and ready for another giant-breed to join your family, Leo can't wait to meet you!

1) Leo is a large, powerful dog who knows how to use his size to his advantage. He will REQUIRE a home who has Anatolian Shepherd or other large Livestock Guardian Dog experience.
2) Leo has been dog selective at the shelter. He has let us know that he does not appreciate the energy of very excitable dogs, and would prefer to NOT be around high-energy/excitable dogs. He may do best with a female dog of similar demeanor to him. Leo will need to meet any resident dog you may have, so please discuss your current dogs personality and schedule a time for them to meet Leo to make sure they can be good housemates.
3) We don't know how Leo will be with cats or other small, furry animals. Leo does have a history of not being good with chickens, but it is unknown if he had an altercation with free-range or cooped kitchens. Please discuss proper introductions between Leo and any cats in the home, as well as discuss your plan to keep other small animals such as chickens separate from Leo.
4) Leo has good manners about personal space with humans, and may do fine with children who are 9 yrs or older and respectful of his size and space.
5) Leo will need a home with a fenced in yard/property to spend time in. He has done well indoors, but craves spending time outdoors where he can lounge around and enjoy the weather.

This boy is literally my dream dog if I were in a place to get another dog. He'll be an amazing dog in the right home.

Sweet Kruz!
Kruz came to us due to him flunking out of service dog training. He only flunked because he cares too much about recess time! Since he did start service dog training, he has some basic skills under his belt and is eager to learn. He's an amazing dog who absolutely loves other dogs and people. He is said to be good with kitties and horses in his previous foster home.

He will be available at Petsmart on Chad Drive from 12-4 on Saturday 2/10
*Located behind the training center*
