It is only natural to me that I would pick them to be the subject of my art. I choose to create art that depicts the reality of animals as I see them, whether it be a foal playing in a field or a watchful dog in the snow. My goal as an artist is to create portraits that show animals in their natural world, with all the beauty, power, and intelligence they possess. My hope is to bring the viewer cl

oser to each individual and create a favorable emotional response and possibly a better understanding of who these creatures are we share our planet… and our lives with.

Delivered this gift today!! Happy Birthday (a few days early) to my sister Terri. This was a quick study. The idea came to me on Monday evening and the search for a reference photo began. This is SheRa, who has been gone for a couple of decades now, so finding a reference photo of her and keeping it a secret was not an easy task. Terri does not post photos anywhere!! But I did come across a couple of photos that I had of SheRa from a long, long time ago and my idea started to develop. The big trick was to complete the painting, complete with framing, in two days. And of course, SheRa had to be a SPECKLED DOG!! There were times I didn't think I could get it done, but I persisted and SheRa eventually came alive on my easel. It was fun handing it over to her today while we visited my Mom and watching her reaction as she recognized her special pup from so many years ago.

I'm currently taking pre-orders for my 2024 Christmas card. This year I chose Tess, owned and loved by Rosalie Ball. I was so excited to paint this for Rosalie, as the composition is so simple, yet very dramatic. I just love the look that Tess has as she studies that ornament. Thanks goes out to Katy Robertson, for allowing us to use her photo for this portrait. What better day to celebrate than National Dog Day!! Dogs are the best in everything they do. I spend much of my time trying to be more like my dogs! And, with no complaints, dogs are the subject of my art more than any other creature. Here are a few paintings I've created of my two favorite girls. Just completed my second entry for the Sandhill Crane Festival. A couple of months ago I announced that I would be away from commissions for a bit since my hubby fell and broke his shoulder. I'm happy to say that he is doing much better and I'm able to get back to my easel full time! YAY!!! As a result, I'm announcing that I'm currently available for commissions once again.

Also, a reminder that Christmas is coming up, which is my busiest time. If you know you are going to want a Christmas commission done, now is the time to get on my schedule. For anyone from WAG (Western Agility Group) who needs a Christmas painting delivered at Turkey Trot, a reminder that we have three months, so this is a good time to start the planning of that perfect portrait.

This week I created my Sand Hill Crane Festival art show entry. I got this idea scrolling through Holly Youngblood Cannon's images from her Patreon group. I couldn't scroll past that face!! This is a compilation of two photos with the background similar to a previous Sand Hill Crane painting I create last year. Finally found the time to finish my Demo Failure of Tart. So it was a demo failure as I started it several days before I was to give a demo in pastels to the Amador Art group. I was just going to do a small part before the demo and proceeded to continue on until I had almost finished the painting and had nothing left to demo. A new commission has been delivered. This is a memorial painting of Alex, who was loved by Kathy and Jim Thompson. Alex lived to the ripe age of 18. Jim told me that Alex was a born show dog and their one and only champion. He loved to show, coming alive when he entered the ring. Sometime in the last few months it occurred to me that I have not painted a horse in almost two year. So I had to remedy that and take some time away from commissions to paint this horse. I was totally drawn to the reference photo that Holly Youngblood Cannon posted a few weeks ago and couldn't wait to sit down and work on this piece. Thank you Holly, for providing such a stunning horse photo. At the beginning of this year I created a female Kestrel painting commissioned by Sue and Mickey Horn. Last month I created the male Kestrel for them as well. Mickey has been telling me about how much fun they are having watching a pair of Kestrels living on their property raise four babies. Apparently they are now learning to fly and hopefully will stick around for the Horn's to enjoy. And of course, they can also enjoy the pair of Kestrels I have painted for them. I just realized that a painting that I completed in March never got posted. I had been waiting to hear that it was delivered safely, and then proceeded to forget to post. Very sorry to the recipients!! This is a memorial painting of Bree, who was loved by Andrew and Jessa. The painting was commissioned by Karen Clark Porter for her son soon after Bree's passing.
