Posey wrapped up her two weeks of training today, impressing her family with her progress. She started as a typical food-driven adolescent Boxer—everything was at full speed, and if food was involved, she kicked it into overdrive. She was pawsy, jumpy, and had a knack for counter surfing and inspecting the dishwasher. Walks were more of a race, with Posey setting the pace and her handler struggling to keep up. Encounters with other dogs? That meant an all-out lunge fest.
But today, Posey showcased her newfound impulse control, responsiveness to commands, and overall neutrality. She wowed her mom by turning walks into something enjoyable, consistently checking in and looking for guidance. Now, with the right tools and knowledge, they’re set to continue building an amazing future together!

Jax came to training because his family wanted to give him a solid foundation. As a rescue, he had a rough start—found as an abused stray, he was especially reactive to men who raised their voices or moved quickly, suggesting past trauma.
Despite his difficult past, Jax was eager to learn and picked up commands quickly. Training focused on building his confidence and counter-conditioning his undesirable behaviors.

Seamus arrived at training as a typical young Portuguese Water Dog—full of energy and eager to listen only when it suited him. He had no leash manners and would bark and lunge at anything that moved, whether it was another dog, a car, or a passerby. Obedience? That only existed if a five-course meal was on the table as a reward.
But today, Seamus returned home a changed dog. His family was thrilled to see him confidently walking on a leash, no longer reactive to distractions. He now follows commands when asked—not when begged. With this solid foundation, his family is excited to continue building on his progress and enjoy their time together even more.

🎉🐾 Meet Hazel & Her wonderful family, the newest members of the Ridgeside K9 family!🐾🎉

Hazel came to training with a solid foundation in obedience, but her family needed help in a few key areas. She had a habit of pulling on the leash during walks, believing she needed to lead for the walk to be worthwhile. Additionally, Hazel was easily overstimulated by other dogs, squirrels, rabbits, and other distractions—completely tuning out commands in those moments.

Through consistent training and plenty of structured walks, Hazel’s heel improved significantly. We then focused on counter-conditioning to reshape her reactions to other dogs, small animals, and public distractions. When Hazel returned home, she impressed her mom with her beautifully refined heel. But what truly stood out was her ability to remain calm and composed—even when her neighborhood nemesis was barking and running along the fence in a frenzy.

Now, Hazel’s family has the confidence, tools, and knowledge to continue enjoying their time together in new and exciting ways.

🎉🐾 Meet Scout and her wonderful family, the newest members of the Ridgeside K9 family!🐾🎉
Scout returned home, impressing her family with her newfound obedience! She came into training for overall obedience, with her biggest challenge being leash manners. Initially, Scout was a nightmare on a leash—chewing on it, pulling excessively, and seeming to believe that being leashed meant she was in charge. She also struggled with impulse control, making walks difficult whenever another animal was nearby. Another major concern was her recall. Scout had a habit of darting out the door and only returning when she felt like it, creating a stressful situation for her family.
Today, however, was a different story. Her family was thrilled to experience a calm, controlled walk with Scout by their side. They watched in amazement as she responded to commands like “sit” and “down” while on their walk. The biggest relief came during recall practice—this time, Scout listened!
Now, with a solid foundation in place, Scout and her family are excited to continue building on her progress and enjoy even more adventures together.

🎉🐾 Meet Indigo & her wonderful family, the newest member of the Ridgeside K9 Family 🎉🐾

Indigo had a rough start in life, spending her first two years in a shelter before finally finding a loving family. However, her transition into a home environment wasn’t easy. She only listened when she wanted to, and in many situations, her behavior was completely unmanageable. One of the biggest concerns was her resource guarding—she became possessive over her owner, reacting aggressively toward family members and friends who visited. This led to multiple biting incidents, prompting her family to seek professional help.
When I first met Indigo, her lack of management was evident. The moment I stepped through the front door, she bit me unprovoked. However, through structured training, patience, and trust-building, Indigo and I developed a strong bond. She quickly became eager to please, picking up obedience skills at an impressive pace. From there, the focus shifted to counter-conditioning and managing her reactive behaviors.
By the time she returned home, Indigo was a different dog. Her obedience was spot on, and she was successfully reintroduced to two family members she had previously disliked—and bitten. Her family was thrilled with her progress and now has the knowledge, tools, and confidence to continue reinforcing her training and managing her behavior.
Indigo’s journey is a testament to the power of training, patience, and understanding. With the right guidance, even the most challenging cases can transform into success stories.

Mattis is your typical loving English Mastiff—loyal, affectionate, and full of personality. However, managing Mattis was no small task, quite literally, as he’s far from a small dog. At over 200 pounds, he had a mind of his own when it came to following commands, often listening only when it suited him.
Walking Mattis was an even bigger challenge. He greeted every dog and human as if they were lifelong friends, completely unaware of his massive size. More than once, his enthusiasm resulted in family members being taken for an unexpected ride as they struggled to keep up with him.
But all of that changed when Mattis returned home after some dedicated training. Now, he impresses his family with his newfound obedience, responding promptly to commands and understanding the importance of walking calmly by their side. Walks have become an enjoyable experience for everyone, with Mattis happily trotting alongside his people rather than pulling them behind him.

🎉🐾 Welcome Diesel and his amazing family to the Ridgeside K9 family! 🐾🎉

Diesel, a resilient German Shepherd, narrowly escaped a tragic fate in a Texas kill shelter, where he was scheduled to be euthanized that very evening. Thanks to the compassion and quick action of his adoptive family, Diesel’s life was spared, offering him a second chance at happiness.

However, his rescue came with challenges. Diesel displayed dog aggression, struggled with obedience, and exhibited resource guarding behavior, particularly over his “mother,” causing tension within the household. Unintentionally, these negative behaviors were being reinforced, complicating efforts to manage him.

Despite these obstacles, Diesel showed incredible promise. Once training began, his eagerness to please and natural intelligence became evident, allowing him to master the basics of obedience quickly. This foundation paved the way for counter-conditioning exercises, targeting his undesirable behaviors and reshaping his responses.

Today, Diesel’s progress is undeniable. From a dog his family hesitated to take outside, Diesel has transformed into a companion they can confidently walk through their neighborhood. His family was thrilled by his improved behavior and obedience during their walk, and their excitement about his bright future continues to grow.
