The only thing getting us through this unbearable weather right now in between risking our lives during chores, is this crazy, rain made pond.

My kids have been absolutely losing it indoors and that pond and skates have been a complete life saver for them.

People think this is normal but it sure should not be. If you don't want to have your farrier out more often, then you need to be adding more movement and hoof enrichment to your environment.

Horse owners need to understand

A 6-8 week (or more) trim cycle will very Rarely fix a problem.

If you've got a horse with flares, the cycle needs to be shortened under 6 weeks.

If you've got a horse with under run heels, you need to shorten that trim cycle.

If you've got a horse with folded bars, shorten your cycle.

If your horse is getting toe abscesses, you likely need to shorten your cycle.

If you have a laminitic horse with rotation, the cycle needs shortened. That coffin bone drops because the laminae are stretched and so very often the issue really began because the toes were allowed to get too long, which was the first insult, and then the metabolism changed which compounded things and tipped it over.

If things are not optimum, they cannot be put back into optimum without getting ahead of the issue instead of chasing it.

Shorten your trim cycle and put things back to Best instead of okay.

Optimum hooves make for disappointed dogs.

As our family battles the flu all week that has literally taken us all out- all of us- all we need is 10 more inches right! 😮‍💨😵‍💫

Farm kids on a snow day:

HURRY UP and get their morning chores done and then they RUSH outside to play. They were thrilled the driveway was plowed because obviously SNOW PILES! Then as predicted, our increasing number of FARM PONDS have gotten bigger and in typical kid fashion, they aren’t concerned for the flooding implications-

Only that now we need to get hockey equipment so they can play pond hockey in the backyard every day. 😮‍💨 Oh to be them again. I’m just glad they’re making the best of a very cold winter.

The universe answered their prayers for all day, in house ice skating. Now I guess I have to honor my word and get 4 pairs of Ice skates!

What a day!

We made:
•Homemade treats for some local dog shelters
•Firecide for sick kids
•We played in the WILD weather outside today
•We caught the sunset!

We colored and learned with neighbor friends, that are so nice to have! Whiney, grumpy neighbors are the worst ever, so we’re thankful.

Photo 1 is fresh clear water.
Photo 2 is a death sentence in this weather.

If we’re all making 3 trips outside each day to bucket small amounts of water and removing ice, than that’s what we need to be doing.

We sign up for this when we own livestock even though it sucks. It’s our responsibility to make sure it happens.

We all have ice, we all have hose or bucket issues. Just get it done.
