ALERT: The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is advising residents to not feed their pets Monarch Raw Pet Food sold at several farmers markets in California due to detection of H5 bird flu virus in product samples.

Residents who fed their pets Monarch raw pet food products or other raw meat or dairy products and notice their pet is experiencing symptoms should immediately contact their veterinarian.

Additionally, residents should avoid consumption of all raw milk and raw meat products and not feed these to their pets. LA County Public Health recently confirmed H5 bird flu in four house cats from a separate household that consumed recalled raw milk and became sick and died, which is part of an ongoing investigation. RECALL ALERT - Carolina Prime Pet, Inc. of Lenoir, NC, is recalling 400 16-ounce bags of "Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips" treats for dogs because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The recalled "Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips" were distributed to Hollywood Feed stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas, and were also available through online retailer www.hollywoodfeed.com.

The product comes in a 16-ounce purple-and-black bag marked on the back side with lot number 20051324L2 and an expiration date of 11/13/25. This is the only lot number identified as potentially contaminated. More: https://bit.ly/3YZrx8i

We are OPPOSED to PROP 129. We need to change the practice act to allow our technicians to do more legally! The state just limited what unregistered technicians can do. Now we are going to add an unregistered veterinary assistant with 4 semesters of mostly an online education to do what veterinarians can do. These are likely going to be the people that are denied admission to veterinary school. They say they will be doing wellness and vaccines and minor illness but our pets can’t talk to us. There are so many illness, heart disease, dental disease, diabetes, arthritis pain, and tumors found on physical exams that we would be doing our pets an injustice to allow poorly trained assistants to do our jobs. Please vote NO! Their curriculum has already been made by CSU so they can collect more tuition money for a degree to those they deny admission to vet school!
